Quicksearch and marked files

Post by *Ephraim »

Hey,

todays behave of total commander with quick search and marked files is,
the mark gets deleted. So, when you have many files in a folder and want to mark specific files, you need to search them by hand and you are not able to use the quick search, cause the already marked files will be unmarked then.

IMHO, it would be neat when total commander would not delete the mark of the marked files. So you can quick search all the e.g. 5 files out of the hundreds, which makes it much more faster to find the files.

What do you think?

TC 7.50 have new feature - quick filtering. It works as quick search, but also hides non-matching items.

You should turn quick filter off and use quick search only - so TC will not remove marks (marks are removed just because hidden files can't be marked - it will mess user).

So, you need to press a little filter button in quick search dialog (or to use Ctrl+S combination when quick search/filter window is visible).

I mean the quick filtering feature and I suggest that there should be found a solution for the problem with the hidden files a.s.o., cause IMHO it would be a nice feature to be able to use the quick filter and marking files.

I don't want to disable quick filter cause I use it more often then marking different files. But a solution which makes both possible is what I ask for.

You may copy selection to clipboard and load it after filtering - TC will select just visible files (you may use hotkeys for this commands).

:) ... thanks MVV that you are more then willing to find workarounds for my problem. Anyway, this is a suggestion for a new feature which is IMHO worth it to be implemented, as it makes marking specific files in a folder with many files very userfriendly.

However, I will try both of your ideas, for sure, but I will be happy when this feature would be implemented.

It may be a dangerous mode to hide selected files.
(press delete while no selected file is visible: the normal expected behavior is that only the file under the cursor is deleted!)
Maybe a better option would be an option not to hide selected files during quick filter mode.

In this case i would support the request.

Has been discussed on introduction of QuickFilter already.
I would support something like it.

Sometimes you know names of 5 files but have a very long file listing. (or in Branch View) So it would be handy to:
- QF first file, mark it, unfilter
- QF second file, etc...

AFAIR Christian didnt wanted to implement because of:
Someone could mark a file far down in the filelist, start QF, end QF, try to delete the first file in the listing (but delete the previously selected file, which is not visible)
