Problem about search-"find files"

Post by *eaglesky »

I want to find a trojan file with TC. I don't know its name, but I know its size, and I know the file's attributes are "read only" and "system". So I check the "file size (=)" in "advanced", But, I can't find the files correctly every time! I mean that the result of search is often different in different times. TC often can't find the files, even I have put the file in the root directory. Not always, but often. Why?
I use the TC 6.01, windows xp system and the file's name is English. I have tried many modes with file size, attributes etc. Even that I fill in the correct file's name some times.

It's funny that it can find the file in a winrar package always if I check the "search archives".

sorry for my poor english.
Best regards,
eaglesky

Hmm, this should work just fine. Maybe you had something left in the "search for" field from a previous search?

Thanks first!
But, I have noticed this.

Aha, maybe I have find out the reason after I have tried many times.
If I set TC "Show hidden/system files", It can find what I want and show them in the "find files" window.
But if I set TC not "Show hidden/syste files", maybe it has found them, but doesn't show them. Even I have checked the attributes of them clearly.
But, but it can show them in the winrar package with the same attributes!
So...

hi, eaglesky
Glad to meet u here. :)
If "Show hidden/system files" option is checked, Totalcmd will search those hidden/system files. While the option's disabled, the searching will ignore them.
You can find the hidden file in a RAR package, coz the RAR file itself isn't hidden.
That makes sense.

Aha, Me too.

Yeah, I have thought this too.
But I don't think this is a good explain. That is to say, if I want to find a hidden/system file or I don't know its attributes, I must exchange the display mode first. That's too bother I think, and the attributes options have no much useful.
I consider the "find files" window's display mode should be splited from the main window, or add an option at least. Otherwise, it can't exceed the explorer.
