filecopy/move/unrar locks whole TC

Post by *yabbah »

Don't know if this has been on the wall before but did a quick search and didn't find anything.

First of all I have to say I love TC but have to go over to speedcommander (from here called SC) as this lock is abuse my worktime.

Let say I will copy/move/unpack a file thats kinda big and take 5 minutes to complete, the whole TC is locked by this action all that time. With SC it has a separate window when doing those actions that isn't stop me from still working with other files when the copy/move/unpack is running.

Is there any plans to implement such behavior in TC too ?

*** EDIT ***
ops, totally missed that 7.55 got a background-button to solve this a bit, but I want to be able to set this permanent, so it all the time is in the background, and be able to batch stuffs. :)

Kind regards

Hello, yabbah.

How about using the [Background] button on file copy/move/pack/unpack operations on a per case basis?

How about telling T.C. to perform such operations in the background always by adding these settings to the wincmd.ini section [Configuration]?
AlwaysCopyInBackground=0
1: Total Commander always copies in the background
2: Always use background transfer manager
AlwaysPackInBackground=0
1: zip in background
2: zip+external packers in background
3: like 2, but run external packers minimized
AlwaysUnpackInBackground=0
1: unzip in background
2: unzip+external unpackers in background
3: like 2, but run external unpackers minimized
0 is just the default value and means disabled obviously.

These settings should be modifiable through the Configuration => Options dialogue boxes, yet sadly are not at the time being. So you will have to use Configuration => Change setting files directly instead and re-launch T.C. afterwards.

Kind regards,
Karl
