New icon for the "fake directories"

Post by *DarkRuleR »

Hi!

I like the new fake directories a lot!

Code: Select all

13.01.10 Added: Windows Vista/7 64bit: Show fake "etc" directory in System32 which shows contents of SysNative\etc because many people don't find the correct location

Code: Select all

29.01.10 Added: Show more fake directories in redirected system32 dir on 64-bit systems: catroot, catroot2, spool, logfiles, DriverStore (the latter only on Windows 7)
But I think it deserves a own "folder/directory" icon.
What do you think???

Agree.
I think that icon like for junctions may be used here (icon with link arrow).

Not really, because it isn't a link - the real directory is there, it's just hidden by Windows...

Hm-m, if OS redirects me to SysWOW64 when I opening System32 (so I see true SysWOW64 folder contents), every directory SysWOW64\something is a link if it points to System32\something. IMHO (because it shows me folder that should be visible near other folder contents).

Maybe some folder icon with "64" drawn on it? (So user will see that folder is from 64-bit System32.)

I myself first though that TC is doing something evil with these fake directories. :) But then I learned that these directories are actually the only non-fake thing in system32. Everything else is redirected to SysWOW64 and these directories are exceptions. What a mess. Why only MS couldn't put 64bit stuff in system64...

Yes, you're got it right. But since TC is 32-bit app, it should initially show SysWOW64 when you enter System32 - that's why I interpret real 64-bit folders as links in redirected SysWOW64 folder. Anyway, I think that icons with "64" overlay should make situation clear.

I have similar view point - if they have System32 folder for 32-bit apps why not just to add new one for 64-bit... but someone drunk very much and thought out this redirection...
Unfortunately it is not only dumb thing that MS did.

I agree.
A (overlay) icon with "64" should be clear enough.
