Little question before detailed testing.

I exported my files (made with dir *.* - see above) and still have the problem that "date" and "time" are managed as one column - but Diskdir uses two separate columns ...

My fault - or not solved now?

Test of 3.2.7 from June 2010

Post by *Peter »

Hello Slartus

here are my new remarks. Most of them are "optimization", no heavy bugs:

Path of file in title bar:
- Does not works if a file is dropped into the program.
- Disappears (not refreshed?) when I try to open a not existing file from history. Opened file remains, title bar disappears ...

Remember List /Memorize List:
- The icon does not work (but F2 and Pulldown menu work fine)
- The command is called "Memorize", the dialogue is called "Remember" (Word mixing ...)
- Does not work when I select a folder or a file on the left panel: Bug or feature?

Path in Statusbar:
- Select a directory - the statusbar shows its name: Fine!
- Select a file in Treeview )(left panel) - the statusbar shows NOT its path-name: NOT Fine!

Summary of files and folders:
- Please change from

Code: Select all

"0 files, 1 dirs \ 24 all files, 5 all dirs"
to something like

Code: Select all

"Displayed: 0 file(s) , 1 dir(s) / Total in List: 24 file(s), 5 dir(s)"
Error message:
- Please change from

Code: Select all

"can't parse a Catalog Maker file"
to something like

Code: Select all

"The file FILENAME can not be parsed with current type SETTINGNAME.
Please select another type for parsing."
- If message appears, the "Progress Bar for parsing" is still running. I think this makes no sense.
- After message is clicked OK, only some fragments of the "not parsed file" are displayed. I do not know - is is helpful or confusing?

Formats.xml
- I think there is an automatic recognition (connection) of the "parse type" in software and the "Formats (like <Diskdir>)" in the XML. How does it works? Which "Format" I have to define if I want to define a "DIR-Format" whith automatic connection?
- Is it possible to define a "Diskdir english format" and a "Diskdir german format"? How to switch between them?

Merge List Dialogue:
- What is shortcut "Ctrl+Oemplus"? (Is it "grey Plus?)
- Can you change the context menu to an Icon menu (Add / Delete)?

my omission, I will make a choice of one column to the different attributes
here are my new remarks
O_o
Does not work when I select a folder or a file on the left panel: Bug or feature?
as designed, but, I think, is to implement the work in the tree
Select a file in Treeview )(left panel) - the statusbar shows NOT its path-name: NOT Fine!
as designed

other comments were taken into consideration and try to correct

thanks for the very detailed and in-depth testing

let has been so far
After message is clicked OK, only some fragments of the "not parsed file" are displayed. I do not know - is is helpful or confusing?
I think better to see at least something than nothing?
Which "Format" I have to define if I want to define a "DIR-Format" whith automatic connection?

There is only implemented for the format DiskDir

- Is it possible to define a "Diskdir english format" and a "Diskdir german format"? How to switch between them?
Maybe later
What is shortcut "Ctrl+Oemplus"
a "+" above the "=":)
Can you change the context menu to an Icon menu (Add / Delete)?
"Add file to merge list"?

p.s: the evening after work, will publish a new version(3.2.8)

Yes - and no :?
A perfect solution will be: display something PLUS additional info in RED:
Only some maybe wrong fragments of the file are displayed.

???
Which keyboard layout? Laptop?

Yes.

Test 3.2.8

Post by *Peter »

Hello Slartus

all the fixes and "adds" work fine - thank you.

Now I tried "Merge List" (which I ignored until now) - here my remarks:

While merging I get different errors:
When merging three files:

Code: Select all

The defined path and/or filename is too long. The full qualified filename have to be shorter then 260 letters and the pathname shorter then 248 letters.
Opening the same file one by one is no problem ...

When merging two files:
The object of type "System.Collection.Gneric.List`1[system.string] kann not changed to type "System.String[]".

BTW:
Is "merging" able to merge different formats or do I have to use same formats? (Merging above uses CAT+DISKDIR+DIR - formats)

Icon "add/delete":You have not added the icon - right?
I still can not find the "Strg+OemPlus" - maybe you can replace it with "Strg+Insert"?

New feature "Create Dir *.*"?

Post by *Peter »

Hello Slartus

could you take a look at my remarks above?

Another thing:
While testing all the details I missed a basic problem:
The "DIR *.*" does not create seconds in file-timestamps. Of course the exported diskdir-file has no seconds either.

The resulting problem is that it is not possible to synchronise data - the missing seconds tell me: "The files are different."

So what to you think about a new feature:
"Read a current folder with all data and subfolders and create a diskdir-file!"

You can also take a look here:
http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=204366

Let me know your opinion.

Your comments-suggestions I have done, but unfortunately, I now have problems at home with the internet, and at work no ftp access, so that version can not publish.
Read a current folder with all data and subfolders and create a diskdir-file!
you want me to implement this program? It is possible but would be inconsistent with the intent of the program (read-file-list)

Yes, the comments are fine. But I mean my remarks to "Merge feature / Merge dialogue".
slartus wrote:...you want me to implement this program? It is possible but would be inconsistent with the intent of the program (read-file-list)
One word could be "inconsistent", the other words could be "enlargement / expansion / enrichment / further development".
I don't want you to "implement exactly this program", I ask for a "new feature like the given example." If VBS is fine then you can use it; if it is not fine maybe you can use another way.

Thank you.
slartus wrote:added: Try to open...
Fine!
not written by slartus wrote:added: Try to show in the folder...
Fine - but if not successfull, it opens Explorer with folder c:\. Maybe a message "Could not found / open folder FOLDERNAME." is better?
Fine!

Yes, I see - and I was too lazy to check before typing. But now I checked - see message above.

But now I think that I reached the end of my ideas - you added and fixed a lot, and it became a powerful tool. Thanks again.
