The Master Password dialog seems to accept any length for creating and verifying the password, but then when you go to enter it for the first time it will not accept the actual password that was just setup.
A password that was 67 characters (504 bit): can be created and confirmed, but TC will not accept the password afterwards. Thus locking all of the FTP connections completely.
A password that was 39 characters (279 bit): can be created, confirmed and used afterwards.
After testing a handful of values, half-way between 65 and 39 a few times: I reached 48 -- A nice round number so I tried 49 instead of doing another mid-point split: which failed.
So it appears that 48 characters is the limit for the Master Password... Yet the dialog will allow you to create and confirm passwords that are longer than 48 -- it just will never accept it again afterwards and will lock out all of your FTP connections from use.
FTP Master Password character limit...

Strange, I'm not aware of any such limit - I will check that.
