Disable dir counting in quickview or use separate thread

Post by *nver85 »

It seems to me that it would be a very good idea to give possibility of not displaying directory details (size and number of files and folders) in quickview mode. Or maybe do the analysis of directory under cursosor in a separate thread? This would really help with mouse cursor stutteruing because of which I hate the quickview mode.

I tend to hit ESC a lot when quickView is enabled and I change folders. Although I'd so much prefer if TC would
1) Just cache the folder details when quickview is used like that into a timestamped file, or a general "DB" file that includes timestamp for the folder/data in question.
2) Update those details when files/folders are deleted or created.
3) Use that file or DB info when presenting the folder details in QuickView.

I find TC recalculates and renumerates information on my drives repeatedly, and would really be worth some solution beyond the limited "tree.wc" file that TC can be forced to create, that doesn't help in the folder size/content details at all.

Just use NoDirQuickView. This micro lister plugin disables counting for folders at all.

But separate thread would be useful. TC may use some flag to break that thread if user changes focused item in panel.

Thanks for the great tip. Although there is still a slightly noticable lag, this is much better than before. I'll just use it and silently wait for the author to add an option to turn directory preview off.

And also by the way, this plugin doesn't help when browsing directories with "quick view without plugins" obviously

Hm-m, here you're right, if plugins are not used, this plugin is not used too. :D

What's worse for me is if I happen to have a custom column active that uses Lefteous' DirSizeCalc, that will freeze TC for a long time (depending on the Directory) and ESC does not help.

OT:
Heh, I just noticed Netbeans has 2393 subfolders *shake*. More than double the TOTAL of all the other programs subfolders (not including the offending 500+ folder java). The windows folder (C:\Win2K) only has 380 subfolders. Mmmm another reason to hate netbeans I guess, as if I needed more (reasons).
----
So Java+Netbeans use almost 2/3rds of all the folders in my Program Files...talk about drive pollution.
