[8.0ß1] Installation of x64 failed(started from running TC)

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[8.0ß1] Installation of x64 failed(started from running TC)

Post by *HolgerK »

- System: Windows 7 x64 ultimate
- tc80x32beta1.exe installation already done in "C:\Tool\Totalcmd"
I should mention that i did the x86 installation as update installation of TC7.56a under Vista x86 (Dual boot, C:\Tools in Win7 is a symbolic link to the same vista directory) and got the the same problem while running the update from 7.56a->8.0ß1.

1. start tc80x64beta1.exe from the running(non elevated) x86 TC instance
2. confirm the UAC
3. No question "Replace installed version". Installer starts with the language select dialog (*)
4. Select default Install path (same as the x86 version)
5. Confirm dialog "The selected path already exists...." with [Yes]
6. Select default suggested (from my x86 installation") INI location "In program dir"
7. Select default shortcut locations
8. Confirm "the program TC is already running... choose Next to close the program.." with [next>>]
9. TC(x86) disappears from desktop and taskbar..
 but is still listed in Task Manger - Processes as "Totlacmd.exe*32"

Code: Select all

 ---------------------------
install
---------------------------
Total Commander could not be closed correctly. Please close the program by hand and restart Install afterwards!
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
followed by

Code: Select all

---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
Runtime error 216 at 0000505F
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

(*) After managing to install the x64 version by manual terminating the running x86 instance, a second update installation asked the correct question "Replace installed version?"

I tried to reproduce the problem afterwards, but there were no more problem to terminate the running x86 TC.
Maybe point 3, makes a difference?

Regards
Holger

TC(x86) disappears from desktop and taskbar..
Arrow but is still listed in Task Manger - Processes as "Totlacmd.exe*32"
This means that it was hanging on exit for some unknown reason. There is nothing I can do about it, sorry.

Ok.
As long as I'm the only one (and also because i can't reproduce the problem anymore after the problem in step 3 was gone) you may move the report to "TC Behaviour which will not be changed".
Perhaps a temporary hiccup in my system setup.
