Ah, you didn't say that you had the drive dropdown list hidden. Then it makes sense. Apparently Lazarus doesn't show the control automatically when TC focuses it, it's similar problem as the command line which didn't show up in beta 1.
Personal note: The x64 behavior looks better for me
I aggree too. Additional if TABs are shown x32 has similar behaviour like x64.
"Since there are many things which have never happened and never will happen,
and which nevertheless are clearly conceivable, and imply no contradiction,
how can one say they are absolutely impossible?" Leibniz
Another but related difference: background color of edit box of drive combo (my drive combo is always visible) is different: on x32 it's white, on x64 it's the same as background of file list. It doesn't bother me, just observation

The background colour of the drive combobox top field, i.e. the field with the downward arrow on the right-hand side depends on the state of the drive combobox.
T.C. 8.0 beta2 32-bit
Drive combobox closed: background white.
Drive combobox clicked for the first time, i.e. drive combox drops down:
The dropdow list has got background color of filepanel.
The little field on top with the downward arrow on the right-hand side has got a white background.
Drive combobox clicked for the second time, i.e. dropdown list closed again:
The little field on top with the downward arrow on the right-hand side has got a darkblue background. (darkblue here, may depend on Windows theme)
The little field at this point in time has got the foxus still.
As soon as you click elsewhere inside T.C. the field will have a white background again.
I.e. the background of the little field on top with the downward arrow on the right-hand side will not be white only if this field has got the input focus.
T.C. 8.0 beta2 64-bit
Drive combobox closed: background light blue, i.e. the primary filepanel background colour.
Drive combobox clicked for the first time, i.e. drive combox drops down:
The dropdow list has got primary background color of filepanel.
The little field on top with the downward arrow on the right-hand side has got the primary background color of filepanel.

I.e. the background of the little field on top with the downward arrow on the right-hand side will darkblue (color theme dependent) only if this field has got the input focus.

Not true as seen on my screenshot - has the same color as the filepanel bg ...
on T.C. 8.0ß2 32-bit, the background colour does change from white to dark blue and back to white.
on T.C. 8.0ß2 64-bit, the background colour does change from light blue in my case to dark blue and back to light blue.
The actual background colours depend on the Windows theme that you use, the Windows color settings and on the background colours which you have defined for the T.C. file panel.
Therefore, depending on your colour settings, you may be able to reproduce that the background colours are different in T.C. 8.0ß2 32-bit and T.C. 8.0ß2 64-bit or you may not be able to reproduce it.
The colours which you have configured seem to prevent you from noticing the difference which does exist.
Yet, as Valentino explained, it does not really bother us, we just noticed it.
It means you both are doing something wrong,
because the filedropdown CANT have the focus after you close it.
If it has focus you are doin something very wrong.
(maybe an ahk script7addon/whatever mixing that up)
So the Question is HOW(and why) u manage to keep the focus on drivedropdownbox after selecting a drive?
because the filedropdown CANT have the focus after you close it.
Thought I had explained the steps how to achieve this.
Apparently I was not clear enough.
All right: Step-by-step instruction on how to open and close the drive combobox and keep the focus on the drive combobox edit field:
Left-click once on the little downward arrow in order to open the dropdown combobox.
Now viciously do not select anything inside the dropdown list and viciously do not click on any item.
Instead left click on the the little downward arrow once in order to close the drive combobox.
Voilà. The little edit box still has got the focus.
Note:
Once you click on an arbitrary item inside T.C., the edit box will lose the focus and change its background colour.
So the Question is HOW(and why) u manage to keep the focus on drivedropdownbox after selecting a drive?
This is the misunderstanding. No drive has been selected before clicking on the downward arrow a second time.
Doing so is not illegal.
In this particular case (this thread) it mainly served to explain how the edit box does change two background colours.
