Button to change file timestamp to current (touch a file)

Post by *SanskritFritz »

Can I achive this? I want to have a button to change the date/time of a file to current (touch the file), as if I edited and saved it.

None command yet---

Post by *Clo »

:D   Hello!
• I see none command like you wish in totalcmd.inc.
   It should be useful to have such one. Though I use the option "Newest file date..." in archives, sometimes the "newest" date isn't significant, especially to update a remote folder on a FTP server.
• So, if your topic becomes a request, I support it.

 Kind regards,
Claude

I wrote a plugin for SpeedCommander for this purpose. You can download it from http://www.sp-download.de/plugins/SetToday.sqx.

If you can make TC pass the selected file(s) to it, it should work with TC too. Please mind that the plugin is SQX compressed.

 Wow, that's funny! Obviously you are THE Sven, author of SpeedCommander (or one of them). I never thought that even you are actually a TC user!
I don't know SpeedCommander well, but I like it too, above all the terrific viewer/media player supporting almost any file type (incl. Word and Excel files), the flexible detail list with an optional tree, the Wipe function and the Compress/Extract supporting many formats including your own published SQX format.
Sometimes I thought Total Commander and SpeedCommader should be merged into the ultimate SuperCommander, although it seemed impossible. But now ... Is there already a certain cooperation between you and Mr. Ghisler?

There is no special cooperation between Christian and me, but there is also no need for work against the other. The market for file managers is big enough for both of us.

PS: TC personal license #216. ;)

Oh, that's a pitty! :(
I would really love to see your great file viewer/player in TC. What about offering it as TC add-on, of course with a fair price (perhaps even bound to SpeedCommander license)?
As far as I remember the viewer of SpeedCommander is already available as separate program. So maybe it's not too much work to adjust it to the TC Lister-Plugin interface. What do you think?

Yes, it is possible, I just wrote a listview plugin. However, it is impossible to provide only one DLL as the SC viewer relies on a couple of other SC modules. So it would be the best to install SC and have the TC viewer make use of the plugin.

Anyway, I ask myself if it really makes sense to offer such module. I cannot give it away for free since (as said above) the viewer relies on a couple of other modules. On the other hand there are a couple of free viewer plugins for TC available.

In my opinion it makes sense to offer a SC viewer plugin for TC that requires a registered installation of SC because:
  1. Currently the SC viewer seems much better than the free viewer plugins for TC (I tried SC V10.0Beta4).
  2. The SC viewer is also better than Quick View Plus 7 which costs $35 and cannot be integrated into TC.
  3. For a TC user it may feel a bit strange to install SC in parallel at first, but it's surely more strange to run SC in parallel only for viewing some files.
I would instantly buy SC if I could use its viewer in TC.

EDIT:
But why not selling SpeedView.exe, SpeedView.wlx and all necessary DLLs as separate product that is cheaper than SpeedCommander? (Currently SpeedCommander.exe and SpeedView.exe are bundled with shared DLLs.)

SpeedView only hosts the viewer (MxQvw50.dll) in a MDI environment.

PMs are disabled, so please send me an email (support at speedproject.de) if you want to try something. ;)

Better:

Code: Select all

while (!asleep()) ++sheep;

@SanskritFritz: Did you try SetToday? Was that the one you are looking for?
Yes it does what I am looking for, but I wanted to avoid external program launching. Thanks for the prog (i did not try it actually, because I already wrote one for myself, but you are very kind to help in a community of a concurrent product. A very rare attitude today, God bless you.

Sven,
You will not believe me, but I can't duplicate this behaviour. As said before there is nothing special, SC uses only a background thread. However, it might be related to the development environment.
OK, thank you anyways. Maybe Christian finds out something new.

Thanks

Have you considered moving from Delphi 2 to higher versions?
:) I am pretty sure there have been better reasons to move to newer versions of Delphi than this one. However, there han't been a reason yet that would overweigh the speed and efficiency of 2.0 compiler.
And I also think Christian is using as few internal Delphi functions as possible, doing almost everything through the WinAPI, so Delphi shouldn't be to blame in this case. IMHO.
