Possible bug with mouse wheel and Vertical Arrangement

Post by *petermad »

When I chose to have the file panels shown in Vertical Arrangement there seems to be a bug when using the mouse wheel to scroll the file list.

If I scroll with the wheel in the upper list - BOTH lists scroll - if I scroll with the wheel in the lower list only the lower list scrolls - as expected.

When I use the wheel outside of the commander window (with the upper panel active) both lists scroll except when the curser is placed on the right side of the commander window.

Is that only mee? - do I have a buggy mouse driver (MS IntelliPoint 3.10)?

Or can others verify what I experience here?

Not TC...

Post by *Clo »

:D   Hello Peter!

• I know this, neither TC, nor your mouse is faulty!

¤ Under Win 98 SE (like you, I guess?), I've exactly the same mouse Logitech (Swiss made) MBJ 69 for two machines.
* In the PC having the original driver from Logitech, the problem doesn't occur.
:)  Bonuses: the wheel works directly in 16-bit programs like the TC Help to scroll the file!
- More: When you place simply the cursor above an inactive window -no click nowhere - you can scroll the file! Passing on the active window - no click still -, you scroll the active window file.

:?   But in the other PC, we make an "update" of the driver (a supid idea of my dear son! )...
• So, now we have exactly your problem, plus:
* the wheel no longer works directly on a 16-bit file; I've to use the wheel-click, then move the mouse to scroll the file by the big "cross" cursor,
* I no longer can scroll a file on an inactive window...
It's the same in any program able to display two windows or more.
There is no matter about the windows-layout (superposed or juxtaposed), in TC or any other program.
Hoping that'll help you,
 friendly regards,
Claude

Hi Peter. I have a MS scrollwheel, however, I use the Intellipoint 4.0 to control it. It is a much more stable version of the driver!! I had V5.0 installed for only a day, but it caused so much trouble, that I went back to V4.0.

I tested TC under the circumstances you stated, and could not get the same results you did.

The only thing I noticed odd was that when outside of TC's GUI, and I rolled the wheel, the lister that was last under focus would scroll. But, only that lister, not both of them.

So, I would suggest installing V4.0 of the driver, and see what that does for ya!

My mouse morks the same way as you describe it here above - i.e. support for 16 bit apps., and I don't have to click on a file panel in TC to activate it - I just have to start scrolling with the wheel.

I don't have any of those problems mentioned above - only if I manually deselect whell support in the mouse setup.

Actually - If i disable wheel support from the mouse driver, and only rely on the internal mouse support in TC I still have the problem that I mentioned when the panels are vertically aligned, but not when they are aligned the normal horizontal way.

The only difference is that I have to click to activate a panel, and of course I cannot scroll in the help file - otherwise everything else seems
to work the same way without mouse driver support for the wheel.

Thank you :) but no - and is wasn't really that I needed help - I actually don't use the vertical alignment very often - It was more a matter of directing Christian's attention to the problem - whether it could be a TC problem - wich would be indicated if more users than just I could verify the problem :!: .

Last detail...

• Just a detail:
- I verified at the moment; the both-windows undesirable scrolling occurs with superposed windows only in the PC which has the "bad" driver.
- In the other, all works fine.
- Valid anywhere in the pannel: top or bottom of the list.

¤ Like you, I don't use a lot this layout: I've not many drives or endless-lenght file-names...

:) Kind regards,
Clo

Yes, it's true! As a matter of fact, with the V5.0 of the driver, you cannot set special commands for each program you run. All the actions you choose are system wide. I did not like that at all !!

Take care, friend! :)

Well, I tried installing MS IntelliMouse version 4 (4.00.0657) - it didn't cure the thing.

I still get scrolling in both pannels when scrolling in the upper pannel with the wheel (vertical aligned panels). But in contrary to the version 3.10 driver I now have to click in a panel to activate it (with vertical as well as horisontal aligned panels) - with the 3.10 driver I only had to roll the wheel over a panel - then it became the active panel.

So I went back to ver 3.10.

At work, where I have a Fujitzu mouse with a Logitich MouseWare 9.0 driver i do not get double scrolling with vertical aligned panels - but I still have to click to activate a panel.

So until now, I think we have established at least 5 different mouse wheel behaviours - I wonder what behaviour Christian have had in mind?

• I get the same under XP-Pro, with a low-cost "noname" mouse and the XP default-driver…

• I hope that he'll tell us…

I' using an 'A4Tech' 2 wheel mouse and it works fine with vertical panels. When I use the default (Win XP Prof) Driver I can use the wheel in the common way and when I use the latest 'A4Tech' driver, I can scroll the TC Panels without inactive TC window (just as Clo described it).
I've just tried with inaktive explorer window and it works., too.

But Mozilla has to be activated.

:D   Hello Peter!
• The last point is to specify at what kind of port our mice are connected… @ home: all at PS2 ports - though I can connect them to an USB port (Logitech mice only) -

:)   Hello!
• Thank you for this info, that completes the hardware-environment.
• In the Logitech install-CD, we have to choose the OS and the port-kind too!

:(   I attempted to reinstall the original driver: unfortunately - though I didn't keep the current files at the Win prompt - I didn't retrieve the "bonuses", and the faulty double-scroll behaviour remains...
• A test with an USP port might be useful. No luck, I've two USB-ports only in my usual PC: one for the DSL-connection, and the 2nd. seems damaged...

 Kind regards,
Clo

After installing v. 6.02 final-final (date 3.3.04) I don't have the problem with scrolling in vertical aligned panels anymore (using intelliPoint 3.10). :D

So it seems that there must have been some kind of bug in TC after all. :!:
