x64 version DriveTipDelay NOT 0 = strange behaviour!

Post by *HerbieH »

This goes for all beta versions of TC x64 (but not x32).

If the [Configuration] setting: 'DriveTipDelay' is set to a value greater than 0, then some strange behavior occurs, when you press anyting in the 'Drive Combobox.'

Can anybody confirm this?

Hello, HerbieH
Help 4.b wincmd.ini wrote:DriveTipDelay=0 Delay in milliseconds, until descriptions for the drives in the drive combo box are shown (default = 0)
As soon as the value is not 0 the 64-bit version does not display the descriptions for the drives in the drive combo box at all.
Instead I see a small window next to the drive C entry which looks like this [TC] ___ [.][[]][X]
where
+ [TC] is the T.C. programme icon
+ the other icons are Minimize, Maximize, Close

Windows 2003 Std SP2 64-bit, classic theme
Total Commander 8.0ß5 64-bit

The same does not happen using Total Commander 8.0ß5 32-bit.

If there is any other unexpected behaviour, you might like to explain what it is.

I have marked the strange box with a small black arrow.

Hello, HerbieH.

Your screenshot illustrates nicely what my raw ASCII graphics was intended to visualize as well.
And I guess this qualifies for the term bug.
Would be amazed if this were the intended behaviour, in particular because the 32-bit T.C. betas behave as expected, only the 64-bit versions don't.

Cheers,
Karl

Confirmed, thanks - indeed I didn't port that dialog to Lazarus yet. With DriveTipDelay=0, the hints aren't shown in a separate dialog - instead, the drive dropdown list is widened to show them. With DriveTipDelay > 0, this cannot be done, because the width can only be changed while the dropdown list hasn't been expanded yet.

Hello, Christian.

The issue caused by DriveTipDelay != 0 on 64-bit Total Commander has been resolved in Total Commander 8.0ß6 64-bit.

Environment:

Total Commander 8.0ß6 64-bit on
Server 2008 R2 (64-bit)
Windows 2003 Std SP2 (64-bit)

Cheers,
Karl
