[8.0bX] Lister does not follow description in helpfile

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[8.0bX] Lister does not follow description in helpfile

Post by *Biozynotiker »

In the TC helpfile and in the Lister configmenu you can read:
Use Irfanview/Xnview to load graphics other than BMP

Lister ignores these settings and always load e.g. JPGs with internal viewer.
So external viewer becomes almost useless.

And btw: Please make an option to disable the awful auto rotate by EXIF information. I want to show images as it is. (Or at least show a hint in the titlebar that the image is rotated)

In the TC helpfile and in the Lister configmenu you can read:
Use Irfanview/Xnview to load graphics other than BMP
Helpfile is not updated to new features yet (it is still beta).
This is due to the fact, that nobody knows if all changes will make it into the final version.
Usually the new helpfile will be available with final version (or with some RC)
Lister ignores these settings and always load e.g. JPGs with internal viewer.
Yes, this is a new feature of TC8

Helpfile is not updated to new features yet (it is still beta).
It is not only in the helpfile, it's also shown in the configuration menu of the lister.

I don't really like this behavior, because you can't decide what is shown in external viewer anymore.
The option "Use Irfanview/Xnview to load graphics other than BMP" should not be ignored, even when
the new lister is able to show other formats than BMP. If I only can use a external viewer by viewing
very exotic image format, than this option becomes almost useless.

When this option is not supported anymore, than there should be an option like "[ ] Always use a external viewer".

Using an plugin is not an option, because the is no one, that is really maintained.
Using the internal viewer (TC8) is not an option, because:
- its slow like hell on resizing big images (compared to TC7 + Irfanview)
- blurs small image while fit to window
- scrolling images takes ages (compared to TC7 + Irfanview)

http://www.totalcmd.net/plugring/imagine.html
is maintained since 8(!) years and still is :!:
(heck its even faster on bigger pictures as irfanview)
I had never used a TC plugin in the past and I won't do it in the future. I'm proud of it. Period.
Thats like saying "Im driving a car but never went faster as 35mph"...

Don't get me wrong, i don't mean a complete viewer as a plugin, i'd mean a plugin, that give me the ability to use a similar option like "Use Irfanview/Xnview to load graphics other than BMP".
This works about the last 10 years, and why this should be changed and why we forced to use plugins for this?
Thats like saying "Im driving a car but never went faster as 35mph"...
Driving at 35mph is way more secure as driving a way faster :)
There is simple no need. TC has tons of buildin functions for my daily work...
