[8.0B9-x86] MRT Hidden Mouse Cursor after pressing F2

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[8.0B9-x86] MRT Hidden Mouse Cursor after pressing F2

Post by *Biozynotiker »

- Open MRT
- Replace the string [N] e.g. to [C] and leave the cursor in the string e.g. [C<cursor>]
- Press F2 to open the save combobox
- While the combobox is open, there is no visible mouse cursor in the x86 version

Confirmed for 32Bit TCpb9.
As soon as you enter Text into the any Edit-Box (Name, Extension, Numbers, etc) the Mouse Cursor disappears.

But when you move the mouse hes back.

I comes only back, after i close the combobox here.
Mouse cursor is still there but not visible, because I can select things when i try to hover the combobox.

Strange, the same thing seems to happen e.g. in the F5 copy dialog when you type some text! I have no idea why, TC doesn't do that.

Maybe it's a Windows feature? I just tried the same in the "Save as" dialog in notepad (just start typing some text), and the cursor disappears too!

Maybe this is an "feature" of the build in mouse driver of windows.
I'm using this build in driver, because the manufacture driver somewhat bloated.

There is a feature called "Hide cursor while typing" in Control Panel > Mouse > Tab "Cursor options". This setting exists at least on Win7, though I think I've seen it on XP too. I don't know the exact names for the above, I rather translated the German terms.

That is true, but you got your mouse pointer back while moving, but in TC case, it permanently hidden until the combobox is closed.

Even if you ünhide"that option in mouse settings in control panel, it does exsactly the same. I am using the TC 8 beta 9 64-bits version on Windows Ultimate. (Windows "feature"???)

I can confirm that, if you're very fast typing the new name and immediately hitting F2 to open the combobox. If you wait a second the mouse cursor stays visible when opening the combobox.

By the way: the problem isn't limited to the x86 version of TC, the x64 version is affected too. Don't know if it matters, I'm using a virtual machine to run my Win7 x64 RTM.

I'm currently looking for another program with a similar dialog to check if it's a Windows or TC bug.

Have you tried my suggestion (File-Save dialog in notepad)?

I checked another Win7 VM (with Windows Classic Theme) with the same result. In this VM you don't have to be that fast while typing. You can wait while not moving the mouse and pressing F2. I think that the Aero Basic Theme of the first VM has something to do with the typing speed.

I guess this is a Windows bug because the mouse cursor is hidden only in the area of the application window (or its parents) but not outside of this area.

Test case: Open TC but don't maximize it, open MRT (not maximized as well), type something in one of the input boxes und press F2. Move the mouse around the screen and you will see the mouse cursor as soon as it leaves the TC's or MRT's area. The same happens in the mentioned File-Save dialog of Notepad if you're fast enough to open the "Encoding" combobox.

I can even confirm it on my WinXP host using Notepad...

It's kind of funny (or not) that the control panel option I mentioned doesn't change anything in the behavior - the mouse cursor still disappears if the mouse cursor is above the focused window...

From what I noticed, problem seems to be that while combo box is open, mouse cursor will not update.

For example: when I type, mouse cursor disappears for 1s or so, if I press F2 in that time, pointer will stay invisible. If I however have mouse pointer over edit field, so it changes to text select one (vertical line), it will also stay like that when pressing F2 even if I move it around.

Tested on Vista, TC 8 beta 9.

I think that I will leave it as it is, since it's caused by Windows itself.

It also happens on TC 7.56a, at least on my system (WinXP 32 Bit). Maybe it's a special case on your system with this specific TC version.

As I stated above: It hasn't anything to do with TC as it happens with Notepad too.
