[TC8b12 32bit]Synch-tool -> statusline -> update text

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC8b12 32bit]Synch-tool -> statusline -> update text

Post by *JOUBE »

Within the synch-tool the filter text (the number and the icon) on the right side of the statusline is not updated correctly.

This filter text (the number and the icon) still remains in the right corner after a first run of compare while started a second compare run (initated by pressing the compare button or after a synch run).

... and please remove the (IMHO ugly) icon and substitute it by a text like it is in the left side of the statusline of the synch-tool. Thanks a lot.

What does this mean?
- In your case the element in the right corner of the statusline is correctly deleted if you start the re-run and re-appears correctly with a number (and the icon) at the end of the re-run?
- There is no element?
- Or ...?

Please note: for testing this issue you have to disable minimum one of the four buttons [->] [=] [=/] [<-] to see a filter effect.

IMO the first post is not that clear. I thought you were claiming the number was not updated at all if you complete the second run.

I don't care what is shown when the second run is in progress.
However I can reproduce it now.

I don't understand the problem either. When I click on "Compare" when there is already a result, the filter image and number of hidden files are hidden until the comparison is complete, then they are shown again.

See this screenshot (Tc is running with a fresh ini): http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/4480/bild2ow.png

Tc is "reading directories", but already knows how many files are filtered? How can this be? Tc as visionary...

Ah, I see - I only checked the "by content" step because the "reading directories" step is very fast with not too many directories. I can reproduce the problem with large directory structures.

Yes, the comparation (re-)run takes in my case often 10-20 minutes (and more...). Then it's bad to see wrong (visinary) information meanwhile over minutes and minutes... Why you do not simply handle the new text and icon on the right in the statusline together with the left part.

I do not unterstand, why you do not respect the wish to have an text orientated mask only with text and not with a un-understandable icon. Please substitute the icon with a more understandable text. If do you not want this, please make a special wincmd.ini switch to disable this icon.

I'm using the icon to save space, and because it's the same icon as used in the main program for the filter function.

;-) The truth is, that there is enough space to place a long text at this place.

That's true for the sync dialog, but not for the main program! I also wanted to show an icon because it's more likely that the user will notice it and see that something is wrong. I have received various support e-mails where people asked why suddenly the sync tool didn't show any files.

Yes, ok, this is theme also in some threads in the forum. Specially one thread shortly before you implement this element.

The problem is, that the info is only "something is wrong", but a text "Right side filtered files by show buttons:" (or shorter) will make it more clear.

An alternative for "power user" is, to make a switch to disable this whole element (specially the icon).

You are the only one complaining about the icon. (There is no support++...)
It seems to be not as bad as you describe it is for many users.

Yes, I know...

I have payed (iirc) 20.- DM in the year 1995 (? or 1996) for the Tc licence. So I have now the right to have this ugly icon removed from a screen I use every day (this may contain traces of irony).

The Tc has a text orientated gui. I like the Tc for that. Why ghisler(author) distroy this very good feature of the tc without needs? I do not untderstand this. If the icon will be in black and white, I can exept it. But this colored flame is against the "traditional tc gui guidelines". (In german it is called "Gewohnheitsrecht"). If the icon can be disabled with an ini switch to keep the tc gui clean, it will be ok.

I do not use the Button bar (but start menu instead), I do not use the main window filters, because of a clean tc gui. And now, I can not work arround this icon. this is not nice...
