tc8.0beta13 hangs

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

tc8.0beta13 hangs

Post by *GeminiAlpha »

while copying a very large amount of files from wireless laptop to a network Nas (copying photo folders), sometimes TC hangs without any cause. This hanging cannot be 'stopped' or cancelled with the appropriate buttons in the dialog box. Afaik Taskmanager does not indicate TC hangs, but the copying has stopped and does not continue, never.
This kind of 'loop' can only be ended by Taskmanager, forcing TC to quit

Windows sometimes caches large amounts of data when writing to certain drives - I haven't found a pattern yet when this happens and when it doesn't. In the case this happens, the data is written when the file is closed. The close function then hangs until all the cached data has been written.

The same here, but after deleting and/or copying files/folders from a directory (Win8/64). When I want to go to the first map of this tree for instance to delete this folder afterwards, TC hangs. Only Taskmanager will stop TC. Could this caused by Write-Cache Buffer Flushing that is deactivated because SSD's do not use this?

I've never experienced this kind of behaviour (hanging). I upgraded from 8.01 to 8.5-ß3 and the same there.
I used to install the 64 bit versions, but now I've installed the 32 AND 64 bit version (back to 8.01) and (still) don't have this hanging anymore.

Today I moved about a hundred files from one folder (in a partiton at my intern second harddisk) to another folder in an USB3 external harddisk.

When I wanted to delete the empty folder on the partition, TC hanged. I get my USB3 from a little Renesas Electronics USB3 SATA device + driver. I've never saw this in Windows 7 so I suppose it's a Windows 8 problem. This hanging happens also when I do the same with my USB2 external harddisk.
I waited a long time for the cached data to be written, but TC didn't stop hanging.
Of course when I restarted TC I could delete the folder.

For a few months I've worked on a Photoshop file with more than 300 layers. I used CS5.1 within Win7-x64. Not ones I've got into an error! Yesterday I was using the same CS5.1 but in Win8-x64. After a certain standard action Photoshop hanged...

I use TC for a very long time and allways upgraded to the last (beta) version. And I never had any TC-problem on my system! Now I've had it with Win8. I'll go back to 7 and I'm pretty shure TC 8.50-Beta doesn't hang any more.
