Summary allows you to read and write the Summary information known from Explorers' file properties dialog.
Title, Subject, Autor, Keywords, Comments, Category.

Music summary information:
Artist, Album, Year, Genre.

Tried to change some of above attributes in JPG file using this plugin on Vista SP2 - doesn't work. Plugin is able to show the fields in custom columns but can't edit them via Change attributes dialog. I can change these fields only in Windows Explorer file Properties...
Can it be caused by changes in Vista?
From Wikipedia:

The ability to view and edit metadata at the file system level stored in a file's secondary stream through the "Summary" tab of the file's "Property" dialog was removed.[7] Metadata is now stored inside files, however developers must write a shell metadata handler for any file format for users to be able to edit and view its metadata.

I found that the plugin have problems with German Umlaute:

- if it exists in properties (example: "Author: Müller" in DOC), then it is displayed with wrong letters in TC-columns

- if I add it with TC-fileproperties / use plugins - add "Müller", then "Mller" will be found when I open the modified file with "MS Word".

0. TC 8.01 32bit, Windows7 64bit
1. Installed Summary 1.10
2. Invoked Change Attributes on a doc file
3. Add atributes tc.comment, summary.Title, summary.Subject
4. Select Save Settings, enter name "summary"
5. TC gives EXCEPTION1 below
6. The setting is saved
7. If I change an attribute, saving it is very slow though and doesn't seem to be saved
8. If I restart TC, I need to select my "summary" setting again
9. Sometimes saving causes EXCEPTION2 below
10. With TC 8.01 64bit the results are worse: every time I save, I get EXCEPTION3 below, and TC is killed

very sorry to resurrect such an old thread, not sure if there is a more up to date thread for Summary.wdx version 1.10 (which seems to be the latest).
I'm also getting a "Change attributes" crash for Summary.wdx64 1.10 with TOTALCMD64.EXE 11.03 on Win10.x64 as described below.

Steps:
1. select few mp3 files in a folder
2. select menu File -> Change attributes
3. select Change plugin attributes
4. select More attributes
5. in Plugin: select "summary"
6. in Property: select "Subject"
7. in Value: type some text, for example "aa"
8. Press OK

Result: Exception thrown at 0x000000000E3C36A7 (Summary.wdx64) in TOTALCMD64.EXE: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000000000000028.

Is this a known issue? If this plugin can/should not be used, is there another way to change multiple fields for multiple mp3 files within TC?

I can confirm this. I don't get any error message - TC simply crashes, and Windows closes it down.

It also happens when trying to set other of the Summary attributes, like Title or Comments. According to the readme for the Summary plugin, only Subject, Comments, Artist , Album, Year and Genre are supported for writing for .mp3 files

In 32bit TC there is no crash, the plugin just doesn't change anything.

Since the Summary plugin is old (2012) I tried with TC 8.0 (also from 2012) - here I get the same crash in 64bit TC, but in 32 bit TC I get this error message:

I also tried with older TC versions 7.57a, 7.5 and 7.0 (32bit) and all gave error messages with different stack traces.

This is all tested under Windows 7.

I also tried testing under Windows XP (32bit) with TC 11.03 - Here I don't get any error message, the plugin just don't change the attribute.

No - how do I do that?

The only extensions I see for mp3 if Play with Media player and Add to Media player queue - And I cannot find anywhere to disable those neither with ShellExView nor CCleaner.

@Lefteous: kindly please advise the steps needed to use the plugin: would love to get it working. If you still have the source code, can you check if the crash is reproducible for you too?
For me, the registered Content plugins are as follow (unfortunately I cannot attach a screen capture):

• xPDFSearch, Registered for: EXT="PDF"
  Summary, this and the ones below don't have and specific registered extension shown in TC Plugin Manager
  Misc
  ShellDetails
  DisSizeCalc
  NTLinks

  NL_Info

With TC Plugin Manager I tried to disable all Content plugins and left active only Summary, then restarted TC unfortunately the crash still appeared. Should some other Lister, Packer or FS plugins be disabled too?
