Some videos are not played with F3

my observations with some files in my video collection are :
-no sound, video plays at enormous (high) speed
-no sound, no video (shows only data listing)
-shows a few first seconds of the 1.5hr long file, then stops

these files are played back ok in win media or bs players. well, wc is not a dedicated video player but it is likely to use the same direct show interface as they do. i could upload them for anyone to test but have no web space to share full movies. my version is 8.0b24 x64. contact me if u want these files.

TC's internal lister does not use a direct show interface (older Windows Media player interface which may use complete different codecs compared with the standalone Windows Media Player) .
Try this lister plugin instead:

i tried it, things have got some better. now i can preview my .avi & .mp4, but not .mpg, .mkv, or .vob (dvd-rip) files. maybe that is the plugin itself - i dont know whether its worth contacting the author...

Search for "mmedia.ini" in your TC path and add the needed extensions to the list.

If Windows Media Player can play those files the plugin should do it also.
If WMP can't open those files (btw. mkv is a container format which can hold different coded data streams) you should search for codecs (DivX,..) which can extend the WMP possibilities.

But truly if you want to watch a DVD/Blu-ray movie, the TC lister is not the best solution.
Better use a standalone player like:
Mpc-hc: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
both include codecs for the most important media formats.
