TC8 B23 - Poor Network Performance
Two Windows 7 workstations interconnected by a gigabit LAN.
One (A) runing TC8 Beta 23, the other one (B) TC7.53a.
When 'pulling' files with TC8B23 from B to to A the network performance is usually below 1MB/sec.
When 'pushing' the very same files with TC7.53 from B to A the network performance is at an average of 20MB/sec and goes up to a maximum of 70MB/sec.
IRPStackSize on both workstattions is set to 50 (Dec). TC is a firewall exception on both computers and have both running the same virus scanners.
The total time needed to transfer the complete files confirms the above numbers.

Hello, Therese.
May we note that there has never been a Total Commander 7.53a?! There was T.C. 7.50a, the next release version was T.C. 7.55. Hm.
Irrespective of this minor lack of precision, can you tell us, please, what the corresponding transfer rates are if you use Windows Explorer to transfer the same files between computer A and B?
Moreover have you made sure that both Total Commander versions - still wondering which v7.5?a it may really be - use the same copy method? (Configuration => Options => Copy/Delete)
What are the transfer rates if you use Total Commander 8 and 7.5x to perform the transfers, but instead of pressing <F5> for copying you use Ctrl-C in the source panel and Ctrl-V in the target panel?
Kind regards,
Karl

Probably yes - I'm using a Windows function (CopyFileEx) to copy the files, so I don't really have any influence on the copy speed here.

The version # has to be 7.5_6_A, sorry for this.
It were big files (several 100MB), thus cashing shouldn't be a problem.
I've copied the WinCmd.ini from A to B, thus TC settings should be the same on both workstations.
I just updated to v8 Beta 24 and did some tests.
Autotuning on:
Pushing from A to B with TC8B24: ~ 100MB/sec
Pulling from B to A with TC8B24: ~ 11MB/sec
Pulling from A to B with TC7.56: ~ 11MB/sec
Pushing from B to A with TC7.56: ~ 11MB/sec
Pushing from A to B with Explorer: ~ 11MB/sec
Puliing from B to A with Explorer: ~ 11MB/sec
Autotuning off:
Pushing from B to A with TC7.56: ~ 90MB/sec
Pulling from B to A with TC8B24: ~ 11MB/sec
Pulling from B to A with Explorer: ~ 11MB/sec
No idea where the outstanding numbers in the first lines stem from; it's near optimum performance of a Gigabit network and basically faster than the local HDD at least on B can store the data.
The average 11MB/sec are not optimum network performance but at least acceptable compared to the less than 1MB/sec I had in earlier tests with TC8B23. Autotuning doesn't seem to make much difference.
Sincerely,
Therese

Sorry, this should have been moved to "will not be changed" - TC is using a Windows function (CopyFileEx) for copying, and there is nothing I could do to make that any faster.
