I would like to be able to swich it on/off.

There is. You can disable it along with inplace file renaming by "InplaceRename=0" or separately by "InplaceRenamePath=0" parameters in your wincmd.ini.

AFAIK where is no internal command to do it, so you have to edit wincmd.ini each time, sorry.[/face]

I mapped the LEFT cursor key to cm_editpath. The RIGHT cursor key is already predefined to open the command line. For me this combination is easy to remember: LEFT goes to the upper text box (the "TC address bar") and RIGHT to lower text box (TC command line). Furthermore the address bar can be considered as a special command line that supports only implicit CD commands.
