Simple suggestion for brief view...
Is it possible to make the brief view to always show one row so it scrolls up/down like the full view? It would be nice if they would behave the same way i cant use the brief view right now even though i would like to use both brief and full.
Sometimes it is nice to be able to se more of the filename without increasing the windowsize.
Hope you consider to add this as an option in the wincmd.ini if there isnt one already.

Make a file with a name longer than 65 characters and place a copy in each folder, so you would see even in brief view only one row.SamiRaj wrote:Is it possible to make the brief view to always show one row so it scrolls up/down like the full view?
If you openSometimes it is nice to be able to se more of the filename without increasing the windowsize.
Configuration->Display and select 'show filename in filelistas tooltip if truncated'
you will see, as it says, a tooltip of the filename if truncated.

Excuse me but that is the most stupid workaround i have ever heard. Then ill just keep using Full view insteadSheepdog wrote:Is it possible to make the brief view to always show one row so it scrolls up/down like the full view?

Sure but i also want to scroll up and down not to the left and right. I dont think this change is more then a couple of minutes of work for Mr Ghistler.Sheepdog wrote: Sometimes it is nice to be able to se more of the filename without increasing the windowsize.

Re: Simple suggestion for brief view...
I could not imagine the benefit of this behavior, because I think it's one of the advantages of the short view to see more files without to scroll in the window. Independent of my view I tried to show you a way to have the behavior you desiredinstead to tell you that your wish is the most stupid I can imagine.SamiRaj wrote:

And I think there's also no need to insult me for trying to help you (using a smily makes your words not fewer sharp).
If you scroll up and down you move automatic throught the rows next to each other. Theres no need to scroll left and right.Sure but i also want to scroll up and down not to the left and right.

Well i like scrolling a couple of lines at the time. And as i said i wanted it as an option, ofcourse it shouldnt replace the standard behaviour.
Your suggestion is more of a hassle and its not a complete solution for what i asked for so how can i take it seriously?
You probably think totalcommander is perfect already and have some kind of need to defend it against improvements...

The proposal of SamiRaj makes sense. Horizontal scrolling is just not intuitive at all and it's completely useless when there are thousands of files in the folder.

Although
doesn't sound very nice (you shouldn't be so direct...) it's true. The proposal to place a 65 character long file in every single folder on a system is just so funny and not serious that I wondered where the missingExcuse me but that is the most stupid workaround i have ever heard.

Although I still don't agree with this opinion I never said it doesn't.icfu wrote:The proposal of SamiRaj makes sense.
Maybe it sounds funny but it works (as a workaround). I didn't mean that he actually should browse to each folder and make such file but to create a button with 'copy '65character_File' %P' or so. And each time he desired to see brief view with one row he could push the button. Or even make a batch with 'if exist... del else copy' - so he could switch. The proposal to place a 65 character long file in every single folder on a system is just so funny and not serious that I wondered where the missingwas...
Do you know this problem? Think the solution sounds ridiculous but it works, too.

It doesn't matter if you put a file in a folder with 20, 40, 60 or 65 characters, still the file view and scrolling is horizontal only and that is exactly what SamiRaj does NOT want...
I don't see any workaround in your solution. Don't forget that 65 characters means nothing when not using a fixed font like Courier and the resolution doesn't fit yours...
All it maybe does is making the columns wider so that only one file name is shown at the same time but this has nothing to do with the problem.

Yeah that seems to work pretty well but the positions for Name and Extension dont change according to the width of the application. I need to adjust them whenever i resize. (I have set to show Extensions aligned after tab stop)Vansumsen wrote:Just an idea
