[TC 8.0 x64] Lister scroll after search text

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC 8.0 x64] Lister scroll after search text

Post by *ddActor »

1. Open (F3) in Lister text file ~500kb
2. Press F7, enter text. Enter
3. Press F3 or Shift F7 (again 3 or 4) for find text in center of the file
4. Scroll text in lister with mouse up and down. First or second scroll step are large, but next steps small as usual. Selected text are jump to many lines

May be need repeat steps from 1th, if bug not viewed.

Sorry, I don't understand your problem. What do you mean with mouse up or down? The scroll wheel? Or clicking on the up/down arrows in the scrollbar?

1) Open lister with longer file (few pages)
2) Scroll one step down with mouse scroll wheel -> lister scroll by about half page instead of 3 lines
3) Scroll one step down with mouse scroll wheel -> lister scroll by 3 lines
4) Scroll one step up with mouse scroll wheel -> lister scroll to beginning of file instead of 3 lines

It looks like first mouse wheel step scroll more lines then each subsequent steps. Same for v8.01rc2 and v8.00 both 64bit. Not try on 32bit version.

Lister scrolls by 3 lines for me too but scroll box jumps by irregular intervals. I suppose it's because lines have different length and scroll box position is calculated by bytes, not lines. Probably this fact confused ddActor and anderuso?

Yes, it's calculated in bytes, because TC never knows the total number of lines in a file - they are determined "on the fly" by looking for line breaks.

I open same file on same computer with version 7.56a or 8.01rc3 32bit and lister scrolls normaly. When I open it with version 8.01rc3 64bit lister act as described in previous post. So it look like some difference between 32bit and 64bit versions/

I still cannot see any difference in behaviour between 32bit and 64bit TC under Windows 7.

Can you reproduce it starting TC with a clean ini-file? - just to rule out that it is any of your settings that is responsible for the behaviour.

I cannot see any difference either - tried with the file HISTORY.TXT included with TC, about 420kBytes. Searched for string 5002, it's about in the middle, then used the mouse wheel - no problem.

petermad: I delete ini file, start again and behavior is the same

ghisler(Author):
1) It look like search don't need to be involved. It's enough to open file wheel scroll down and up
2) I Try HISTORY.TXT and it's working fine. I always try it with bigger files -
>10MB (mainly txt log files). Try open TOTALCMD64.EXE

I tried with TOTALCMD64.EXE and with exports of the full Windows Registry (191 Mb) - still no problem here.

What mode are your Lister in when this happens? - Text, Binary, Hex, Unicode or UTF-8? What charset is Lister using? - ANSI or ASCII. Is text wrap and text cursor enabled? What font/font size are you using (if not default)? - What encoding is you Lister using when opening those files - if applicable.
