[TC8.01rc4] confusing NetHoodReadInfo parameter

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[TC8.01rc4] confusing NetHoodReadInfo parameter

Post by *petermad »

history.txt:
08.07.12 Added: Experimental: wincmd.ini [Configuration] NetHoodReadInfo=8: Windows Vista/7: Use new delayed method to read virtual network folders, to make it faster (all except for the network neighborhood) (32/64)
totalcmd.chm:
NetHoodReadInfo= Determines network functions to call.
Sum of: 1:GetAttributesOf, 2: SHGetDataFromIDList
So according to history.txt the default value for this new parameter is 8, but according to the help file there is no default parameter, and furthermore the value cannot add up to more than 3 (1+2) - I am confused.

Furthermore - can we have an example of how to test this ?

8 here doesn't refer to the default value but to the new bit to add, it is like
19.11.10 Added: MinimizeOnClose=4: Minimize TC also when clicking on button "Alt+F4 Exit" in lower right corner

Ahh, I see - it is not a new parameter, it is just an addition to an already existing parameter.

Still, why doesn't the help file show the default parameter?

And how to test?

This is an experimental feature - since our network is very fast, I can't see any difference between NetHoodReadInfo=0 and NetHoodReadInfo=8. Could someone with a slow network please test NetHoodReadInfo=8?

Please note that this doesn't effect the network neighborhood, just the subfolders in it (including the "Netowork" subfolder).
