I'm still thinking that this is caused by a background application using a keyboard hook - that's probably the reason why hotkey explorer freezes too. You should use a Linux boot disk and scan the system from there. If a virus/worm is already active, it can hide itself very well from antivirus software.

Could you please try the beta 24 64-bit? It fixes the underlying problem that caused similar malfunction in my environment, so it might also fix the same problem for you.
