Moving to new 'puter

Post by *adagioinb »

Hello!
:D I've been an extremely happy Total Commander user for a while now. Can't imagine how I'd deal with file management without it.

I've been using Ver 5.5? (registered) on a W98 laptop.

I've just purchased a WXP Pro laptop. Am downloading the latest version of Total Commander (6.01).

:?: What files do I need from my old installation to set up my new installation so that registration and customized settings are maintained?

Thanks for any insight!
Respectfully,
Ruth

Copy the following files:
wincmd.ini (settings)
wcx_ftp.ini (FTP connections)
*.bar (toolbars)
wincmd.key (your registration file)
If you made changes to the main menu, then
*.mnu
Plugins mostly use an own ini file to store their settings (ex "logtail.ini"), so look for them also (if you use plugins).
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

2Christian Ghisler,
Add this question to FAQ, please.
It really often repeats at the forum and... it's not easy to ask the right question at forum's "Search" to find the answer.

:D Thanks for your answer on what I need to successfully transfer to my new 'puter.

And yes, :!: PLEASE :!: do put how to do it in the FAQ!

I had checked the FAQ first. Then tried to find an answer in the archives. But, as was stated, could not formulate a successful search string! Got a bunch of interesting answers, but none of 'em to my question!

Again, thanks for your help!
Respectfully,
Ruth

Good idea, I will add it to the FAQ.
