Multi-Rename Tool dialogue show S&R fields as selected
When opening the Multi-Rename Tool dialogue, the <search for> and <replace with> text (combo-)box are shown as selected as well as the file name box.
(when there was some text in the search and replace box from an earlier use)
This confuses me into thinking that when a text field is selected, (over-)typing starts there.
Only after typing <TAB> 4 times, then shift-TAB select these fields as usual.
When I use this tool (I use it often), I almost always change the S&R boxes and leave the filename mask "[N]" unchanged.
In TC 7.x neither of these fields had selected texts, and that's the way I prefer.
Having three fields with selected text is a bug, in my opinion.

I cannot confirm this - using fresh ini file with TC 8.01 32-bit under Windows 7 64-bit.When opening the Multi-Rename Tool dialogue, the <search for> and <replace with> text (combo-)box are shown as selected as well as the file name box.

Ok, here an image of how the dialog looks when started for the second time after TC was started:

I've removed (renamed) the wincmd.ini (in the totalcmd program dir), and a new small one was created by TC.
I've also removed the default.bar and default.br2 files to make it completely independent of possible content of previous TC versions.

Not confirmed using this stepsRobert040 wrote:How to reproduce:
. Start TC
. select some files.
. <ALT>F R
. in "Search for" enter some text "qwerty"
. in "Replace with" enter same text
- press <Enter> to Start
- press <ESC> to close dialogue
- <ALT>F R
Now you should see three selected text fields.
Only the first file name field ist highlighted as usual

2Robert040: After all it seems nobody can reproduce your TC behavior.
This makes it feasible that the problem is not with TC, but with your individual Windows installation.
Do you have any third party programs running?
Any special driver (mouse driver or alike)?
Twinkey?
Autohotkey macro?
... to mention just some of the culprits.

I've seen this behaviour on Win7, too. Since I don't work with Win7 for longer periods of time (but with WinXP as my signature says) I didn't pursue it any further and also can't reproduce it that easily. I'm not sure if it was a VM or my host system, though...

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce it either - I'm on Windows 7 x64 too. Tried with 32-bit and 64-bit TC.

I de-installed, re-downloaded and installed it, et voila, no change.
100% reproducible.
BTW. I did install (also the first time) the 32+64bit package on W7-64bit. But when I run TC, the about shows it is running as 32-bit. So, the default setup runs the 32-bit executable.
When executing TOTALCMD64.EXE, there is no such issue.
I wasn't aware there were two TC's installed. Now I know it exist, I'll reconfigure the default startup icon.

This is exactly the same problem as described already here:

@ghisler(Author): The same problem is also with the Find Files dialog (Alt+F7). Maybe you could - for test purposes - replace TMyComboBox with a standard TComboBox and write here if this effect still appears?

They are almost the same, except for some functions to read/write Unicode text.

After all those "can't reproduce" messages, I'm happy to read that more people have also stumbled on the same issue, and possibly looking at a solution.sqa_wizard wrote:2Robert040: After all it seems nobody can reproduce your TC behavior.
As I wrote before, my solution was to select the 64-bit (x64) version of TC.
I still wonder why the installer, after installing both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of TC, places the 32-bit version in the startup icon. When would anyone use the 32-bit version on a 64-bit OS?
Robert.
