Feature Request
Hey Christian,
Given all that you do for us I know we shouldn't ask for more but... do you think you'll ever redesign TC with a Holo theme? I love the app, have since winmo 6, but I think the Holo look is so slick and with TC's functionality it would be the absolute best file manager available for android. What do you think?
Thanks

How is this done? Wouldn't it break backwards compatibility?

It's just a look really. Colors, shape, font and simplicity. Some good examples of Holo are: apps called: quotes, battery widget? Reborn!, currents, business calendar, Google calendar etc.. this looks like a good starting pointhttp://www.extremetech.com/mobile/113971-5-ways-the-new-android-design-guidelines-will-make-apps-better
I don't make apps, so I'm not really sure how but I think it's kind of built in somehow.

According to this link Holo is the theme of Android ICS. TC doesn't specify any themes in the dialog resources, so shouldn't Holo be set automatically on ICS or newer?

I found this, I don't really understand it all but maybe you do?

And

Maybe this'll help your understanding and allow you to decide if it's something you want to do. Take care

I see - Well, I'm not a designer, just a developer. TC for Android is a hobby for me, I don't earn a single cent with it. It wouldn't be appropriate to pay many 1000s of dollars for a good designer for a free app. Therefore I re-used the icons from the desktop version.

Just an idea, have you ever considered open-source icons?ghisler(Author) wrote:I see - Well, I'm not a designer, just a developer. Unfortunately using other people's icons is a legal minefield. There are thousands of icons in these libraries, and there is no guarantee that they are really all free to use and not copied from commerical icon libraries.

I would really like to see a holo theme too, and I would also pay for it (since I bought the desktop version too), because I like the possibilities of TC.
Here are some examples of holo styled file managers on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&feature=related_apps
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uncopt.android.filebrowser.free&feature=search_result
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jyvee.fylee&feature=search_result
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fm.clean&feature=search_result
Backwards compatibility can be achieved with ActionBarSherlock (http://actionbarsherlock.com/) and HoloEverywhere (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.holoeverywhere.demo).
The most of the icons (cut, copy, paste, share, ...) should be usable directly from Android itself, I think.
Or you can use the official source for the icons from here: http://developer.android.com/design/downloads/index.html
