Transfer rate

Post by *quantum »

I'm glad to see the transfer rate in kbytes/second when copying large files. However it's not helpful to see the number bounce around from 1500kb to 7000kb back to 3500kb all within 2 seconds. It would be much more useful if the number was averaged for 5 seconds or possibly for the entire transfer.

Any way to do this either with a setting or a plugin?

The numers are indeed averaged, so when you see bouncing, it's probably your connection which is varying, e.g. a dynamic speed limit by your provider.

What is the averaged time frame? Is it an average for the entire transfer, or for a certain period of time like the last 3 seconds?

I'm actually looking at local drive copies, not FTP downloads if that matters.

It is about one second, as far I can determine the interval between two changes of the value.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

I am looking at the FTP transfer at the moment and it jumps more frequently then every second or half a second.
But still the counting period may be different, eg. counting takes last 2 seconds but is updated more frequently (eg. every 100ms or after transfering more than 10kb of data etc).

It definately changes too quickly to be useful and reduces the ability to get a feel for the current rate. I'd prefer a 3 or 5 second (or user defined) window for the average. I don't care to see 2 changes every second.
