Hi from long time user
Hi all,
I've been a long time (registered) user of Tc (nee WC) since its very earliest days. Since I began computing with CPM-80 machines back in the early 80's I never got used to the new 'explorer' way of amnaging files. I was delighted to find WC back in the early Windows days to give me a feel for handling files in a way I understood. I feel I am in control of the computer using TC.
I love it.
Thats may story
Regards
John

Glory for Total Commander and it's Author
I am also a long time user of TC,
I used it under Windows 3.1 (I think it was Windows Commander 3.x, but I'm not sure)
I was used to Norton Commander (also started with version 3.x) and I was very glad to find program that uses two panes and the same Keyboard shortcuts.
I have used Dos and Windows 3.1 for long time, defending myself from threat known as WIn95, but there was less and less applications for DOS and Win 3.x and I had no choice but to install Win 95B. Although I kept my Windows 3.x in use. (TC still supports Win 3.x - great, I had a chance to use TC 5.5 on Win 3.1 recently)
I never liked Ms Explorer because it was too poor in functionality and speed of use. I was disappointed that NC cannot be used with Windows' long file names. Norton Commander for Windows 95 was an alternative but I have also installed the WINDOWS COMMANDER and found it the best file manager.
I have used it to decompress archives that I did not have programs to decompress. And even if I had - Win Commander was much better to use.
I have used it to copmare files, to synchronize directories (instead of DOS program fc.exe).
I have done magical things with multi rename tool.
I have been copying games fo my ZX Spectrum emulator using Windows Commander FTP client and I was able compare directory contents to download only new or modified files.
Total Commander for PocketPC finally made my PocketPC really usable (previously I had to remove memory card, insert into the memory card reader for PC and manage files on PC under Windows with Windows Commmander)
I am able to view/copy/edit files in a very quick way with TC, I can open CDs or floppies without fear that some virus will load (Explorer can load e.g a virus when you open the directory with infected file folder.htt) and many many more.
I have seen it getting more and more functions and I like exploring what's new.
Nowadays I use it everyday at work - as a primary application and the only application to manage files.
Whenever I come to a computer without TC I feel like handless or handycaped in some way.
Therefore I claim that TOTAL COMMANDER, formerly known as WINDOWS COMMANDER, is one of the best programs that have ever been done.

There is just one question - any chance for Total Commander under Linux?

Hi Roman,
• Please, check the topics where this question has been put already... Cleary, Ch. Ghisler has pratically resigned any Linux version till a very, very far date!
• Also, some private answers...
• Be sure that I regret that too. None X-TC is the main reason for which I didn't reinstall a Linux or ~at home...
Kind regards,
Claude

I read every thread. AFAIK there are problems concerning mainly the absence of a virtual (owner-drawn) listbox under Kylix and some FTP problems. I was under the impression that when these things are somehow resolved in Kylix or Christian is presented a solution then a Linux version wouldn't be that far fetched...Please, check the topics where this question has been put already...

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
