"CheckUsbHdd" is not working properly with drive combobox.
1. Connect some USB HDD
2. Open TC and configure it to show drive combobox
3. Make sure "CheckUsbHdd" is enabled
4. Open the external drive in one panel
5. Restart TC
The icon of the external drive (which is currently selected) is correct. But if you open the drive combobox, it will revert to standard internal drive icon and stay that way.
Icons in drive button bars are correct and not affected by the above.
Tested in Win8 x64 with TC8.01 x32 and x64.

The function will be turned off automatically if it takes too long to check.

I don't understand. It doesn't take long. TC correctly detects the drive and sets corresponding icon. However after the drive combobox is opened for the first time, the proper icon in the combobox is replaced by icon for a normal drive. And again, if you enable both drive button bar and drive combobox, the icon resets only in the combobox - the external drive keeps the correct icon in the button bar.

Try putting
CheckUsbHdd=1
yourself in the wincmd.ini. Otherwise TC will indeed turn off this function if it takes too long to check it. It will be checked in a background thread, so you may not notice that it takes a while.

Sorry, but I still think there is a some kind of misunderstanding. Try to watch this screen recording.
Note: my external drive is attached as "G:" and I have CheckUsbHdd=1 in my wincmd.ini.

I can confirm the bug, just as described by umbra - so far I have only tetsted it under Windows XP 32bit with TC 8.01
Note - it has to be a real USB harddisk, not just an USB memory stick.

I'm doing backups to a USB harddisk twice a week, but I have never seen this problem, sorry. I couldn't watch your screencast yet (I'm currently connected via mobile phone because the internet is down), so please keep it online for a few more days.
