Hi Bluestar!

Thanks for this easter release. Haven't found any easter eggs yet... ;-)

A suggestion for a minor usability improvement: On the Configuration tab there's the reload link in the last line. It would be nice to have same behavior as for the reload icon in the header, i.e. a change to the Update tab (besides reloading the list).

That's for now. (Continuing hiding the real easter eggs for tomorrow...)

Happy easter!

checksum question from a worried beginner

Post by *nn1k3 »

I am a beginner regarding checksum. Please tell me if followed the correct procedure.

1) I see this in Bluestar's message of 29Mar3013:

Code: Select all

 MD5 (exe): 22110a0b0a3ec727a9129a1d186622c3
2) I downloaded the zip file from that message.

2) In TC I put my cursor on the downloaded zip file. I did FIle/ Create checksum MD5.

3) I put my cursor on the newly created md5 file. FYI Lister shows me this:

Code: Select all

ecd9fd9000994b2b227b627be8f0b5a8 *Total_Updater_v0.7.3_stable.zip
4) In TC I did File/ Verify checksum, and now I see a screen:

Code: Select all

Total_Updater_v0.7.3_stable.md5:
OK:  Total_Updater_v0.7.3_stable.zip
Errors: 0
OK: 1, not found: 0, read error: 0, wrong checksum: 0
5) Shall I conclude that the downloaded file is legitimate, even though the hex in 1) and 3) above do not match?

2nn1k3 You should conclude that the exe file and zip file have different checksums.

Thank you White! My silly mistake not noticing the "exe" next to MD5. I should create the checksum on the exe contained in the zip, not on the zip itself. Now I get this:

Code: Select all

22110a0b0a3ec727a9129a1d186622c3 *TotalUpdater.exe
That matches. So all is well after all. Thanks again for your patience.

@Gerby: Actually the way "reload" link behaves is intentional: for example if you change the settings and would like to see how the number of loaded plugins varies, this is the only (clickable) option that lets the user to do this without having to change to the Configuration tab again and again.

I did a small change in the code though, so from the next version in case you press Ctrl + R the app is going to switch to the Update tab (F5 remains the same, refresh without changing tab).

@krasusczak: Thanks for the datas with the correct SFV values, converted them into decimal format and added all of them into the checksum database of TU, so next version is going to show them with the proper version.

@iMiKE: Socks support is not yet implemented, though expanding proxy support is planned for future versions.

@krasusczak:
Currently you can choose between three methods:

a) Mark (tick) these updatable items in your list, right click and choose "Marked items" / "Confirm updatable items as latest..." popup option -> TU is going to save them in its config file as latest version, and no longer shows them as update (until a real new version appears, of course).

b) Manually modifying "TotalUpdater.ini" (the app needs to be closed) and by adding the appropriate values to the "[OverridePlugVer]" section, e.g.:

Code: Select all

%COMMANDER_PATH%\plugins\wcx\7zip\7zip.wcx=2234520287|0.7.6.5a
%COMMANDER_PATH%\plugins\wcx\CabWCX\CabWCX.wcx=2184204696|30.01.2010
%COMMANDER_PATH%\plugins\wfx\fsnetstat\fsnetstat.wfx=3725303459|14.10.2004
Structure: path_of_file=crc32(decimal)|version/date(dd.mm.yyyy)
... this way the utility is going to read the given plugin versions (if checksum matches) directly from TU's configuration file.

c) You can use CRC32TU (a simple tool designed to be used for TotalUpdater), with which you can generate the correct ini sections & structure that needs to be put inside the exe file of the utility to be able to work with. Feel free to post the values here / mail me, and if they are valid, I can always add them to the internal checksum database of the next release.

Update is strongly recommended!

@_92:
Thanks for your report, added these 3 plugins (their latest version) to the checksum database - next version is going to contain them.

Unfortunately theres nothing I could do about "AKFont", as its download is secured with some kind of captcha protection, and I don't plan to integrate such features into TU. TotalAndDroid would need a bit html analysis & parsing - I'll try to find a way to catch these kind of links & thus make such packages downloadable using the software.

@krasusczak:
I've tried to respond to your mail - thanks to all the entries, added them to TU - but it seems the message can not be delivered (Delivery Status Notification (Failure))...
