I agree that the direct linking doesn't work.
I'll host it 'till another solution is found, one way or another.
Users will forgive the link being slow (if you're fast enough to see it download at all - it's just 5kb) - it's on my home pc on DSL, but it's online 24/7 (well almost - it's windows, restarts happen). http://alleykat.lir.dk/newfile.zip
I happen to find this tool very useful, too - Notepad does work, thats the way I've done it until now - but I'm glad it's over, it was silly having Notepad on my toolbar just for making empty files that I could save, then open in HPG_ED. I like this tool!

I have considered switching the announcement of new versions from a mailing list to an RSS feed, but updates are relatively rare (every few months), so it wouldn't make sense to check an RSS feed every day for TC updates - this would cause a LOT of traffic. Any ideas how this could be done? Mailing lists are blocked by many spam filters even when I send out each message separately, and addressed to the user...

I think that there is no an alternative to mail lists so far. If 99% can subscribe to mail list, then only 5% will be using RSS feeds.
If users cannot receive mail because of spam filters then this is a problem of those users that use these mail-services. Spam is not such a big problem as some people would like it to be. I use client side spam filtering that didn't missfilter any mail so far. Many strict server-side spam filtering software is EVIL more than SPAM itself.
