How do I keep the button bar settings and associated images?

Post by *Fotis_Greece »

Hi to all, I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I would like to unistall completelly TC and fresh install the new version. Since I have created a very big button bar and have associated the settings with various images it will take me a long time to create them again. Is it possible in some way to keep thiese settings and import them to the new instalation? Where does TC store all these button bar settings so I can back up them and restore them again?
Thanks in advance

:)   Hello !
Welcome on board !
• It's very simple:
- Just save the files <default.bar> and <default.br1> in a diskette, an USB-stick or so. Also the equivalent couples of similar files, whether you had created multiple button-bars.
• When you'll reinstall TC, the pics locations must be the same than in the old installation ! In example, if you had some icons in C:\Icons\32-px, you'll have to save that dir. too (and others if you have some furnishing icons to the bars), then reinstall these dirs. with exactly the same path.
• No more…
   Kind regards,
Claude

Hello dear co-patriot Foti!

Well, if you select Change Button Bar you will see at the top the path and the file name where all your bar details are saved and it's the file you need to backup. If you haven't defined one yourself it will then be default.bar. If you have also in use sub-bars you can see the corresponding filenames at the very same location when entering a sub-bar from the button bar configuration window. If you need those too you should copy them as well.

Your bar file saves all the necessary information like the path of a command or application, any parameters you may have specified even user-definable tooltips etc. Now, the only information you may loose is icons and that is if and only if you define different icons than the ones that are associated with an application or command. If that's the case you should also backup those icon files too.

Restoring should be easy. Just copy your button bar(s) to TC's directory (or another folder if you follow that approach - don't forget to define the new location from Change Button Bar) and copy as well the corresponding icon-related files. If you have forgotten the initial path that every individual icon is pointing to, TC will still hold the information but there won't be any icons visible. In that case you just go the Change Button Bar and define the new location of the icons for the entries you have there.

Regards,
Panos

You don't actually need the .br1 file. Even if you delete it you won't loose any information and the file will be automatically created by TC in the next execution.

Oh, great. Thank you very much. I feel stupid now because every time I formatted my drive I had to re-do all this button bar.

Γεια σου πατριωτη. Να σαι καλα
