-packing for 7zip

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

There are so many different options that it's better handled by a packer plugin. There are already two excellent plugins. Internal 7zip unpacking was added just for users who don't have any plugins and need to unpack a 7zip archive from the internet (like the 64-bit openssl dlls).

so, if I have plugins for 7z, can I delete TC7Z.DLL and TC7Z64.DLL as unused?

I haven't tried that, but it should work.

I use 2 plugins for 7zip: 7zip.wcx and total7zip.wcx.

I would also love being able to pack a 7z with TC file. (without further plugins)
Just create one single file with the defaults used by 7zip itself.

Please?
Everything else could be done by the plugins. (and the needed files should be there, right?)

Samuel,
I doubt that someone will like default options (medium compression, tiny dictionary, non-solid etc). So it will be just a waste of time. INI option with 7z pack settings would be much better.

Anyway, I think TC shouldn't support 7z packing with standard package (TC unpacks many formats but packs only to ZIP now), but maybe with additional 7z.dll placed somewhere (again, with INI option).

As I wrote, the problem is configurability. With ZIP, setting the compression rate, encryption and multi-part is sufficient. There are many more options for 7zip.

Support! Instead of old and unused 16-bit UC2.
