Including wincmd.key with the installation

Post by *DarkRuleR »

It would be great if there is a option in TC that automatically installs the wincmd.key after installation.

This sort off excists allready.
But that option requires that the wincmd.key or wincmd.zip allready excists in the target installation dir.

It would be more usefull I think when I can put a wincmd.zip file with the TC installation file in the same directory and after TC finished the installation the wincmd.key file would be copied to the installation directory.

You don't really need an installation !
This is one of the main features of TC.

Just do a first installation on a PC. Once done you can copy the TC folder (incl. key file, individual bars, etc.) to any other PC.
If you consider to have the WINCMD.INI file at your TC folder, you will keep your personal settings too.

This is indeed one off the great features.
But there are still situations where the requested option would be usefull.
:)

Otherwise I dont understand why the zipped key feature is implemented?

You can modify the INSTALL.INF file which comes with the tcmdr602.exe
Just open it with CTRL-PgDown.

Modify the section :

[Install]
1=install.cab,c
2=wincmd.key

Thanx sqa_wizard...
That works great!

But dont you think its a bit of an effort doing it this way?

That whole "store wincmd.key in a zip file" puzzles me.
What is that option for?

AFAIK it's because some email servers filter out unknown extensions (in this case .key) which causes problems when sending keys to newly registered users.
