-v8.50b3 selecting file does not deselect previous selection

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-v8.50b3 selecting file does not deselect previous selection

Post by *crconner »

v8.50 beta 3 - About half the time, if I have a previous file or directory selected, if I select a new file, TC does not de-select the previously selected items. That is, it "accumulates" all the selections. Seems to only happen when the drive I am in is another harddrive, J: in my case. I can't quite seem to pin down exactly when it will fail, and when it works correctly by deselecting the previous selections. I am running TC 32 bit, on a Windows 7 x64 machine.

Could it be that you are sometimes clicking the icon? There is a new selection method by clicking the icon.

What you describe is standard behaviour when "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Operation" -> "Mouse selection mode" -> "Use right mouse button (as in NC)" is selected - could you perhaps have changed your setting?

Thank you, white. After playing some more, this does seem to be what was happening. In the changes file for 8.50, this new mode is described as "14.09.12 Added: Left click on file icon selects/unselects just that file (32/64)".

I wonder what the benefit is of this new selecting methode. Mostly I use the Insert-key on my keyboard, but when I doubleclick on a directory, automaticly a file at the position of my mouse cursor is selected in the opened directory. Can this be avoided? In configuration my mouse is set at Left (Windows standard). - Win8/64 - TC v8.50ß

Sjef van Egmond,
I think this new feature is for touchpads. You can easilly disable it by adding wincmd.ini parameter:

Code: Select all

[Configuration]
IconClickSelection=0

Thanks for your quick reaction, MVV. This parameter seams to be the solution but it didn't work (beta 1). After upgrading to beta 3 my problems are over! Excellent reply!

You're welcome.
Please note that you should always use latest beta version (if you use beta at all) because every new beta contains many bugfixes and old bugs may disappear.

BTW I think this report describes bug mentioned by you.

And yes, IconClickSelection parameter didn't work in beta 1 according to HISTORY.TXT:
03.09.13 Release Total Commander 8.50 public beta 2 (32/64)
...
01.09.13 Added: Turn off selection of files by clicking on their icons: wincmd.ini [Configuration] IconClickSelection=0 (32/64)

Thanks again for this completeness, MVV. Being a Power Member, maybe if you've got the time, you could look at my other problem which I posted here: http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=270959#270959
