I encountered a problem with file decompression with Total Commander. The Canon scanner driver that I tried to modify failed to function fully. I do have a few plugins installed. I managed to narrow down the issue to the Game Archive Unpacker plugin.
GAUP appears to handle the Microsoft SZDD archive format. But in some instances it may produce incorrect output, different from EXPAND.EXE, 7-Zip, or that built into the Windows device manager. I can't tell whether the archives were invalid to begin with.
A small sample is included, with the compressed file (*.da_), one created with Total Commander (*.daX), and one produced by Windows (*.dat).

The plugin appears to be discontinued, and there is only an e-mail address on the author's site.

Did you try to contact the author? Maybe the Microsoft format differs from the game format?

You can move GAUP wincmd.ini entry at the end of plugin list to lower its priority if another packer is able to handle this archive type.
I have GAUP and Total7zip installed (Total7zip is registered above GAUP),
Ctrl+PgDn on cnq4808.da_ opens it with Total7zip;
Ctrl+PgDn on cnq4808.dat shows an error message (unsupported archive);
Ctrl+PgDn does nothing with cnq4808.daX.
