-[Tc8.50b9] do not save position and settings on exit

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-[Tc8.50b9] do not save position and settings on exit

Post by *Nigurrath »

I have this situation

-latest beta of TC and Windows 8.1 with UAC enabled and I'm an admin
-move the window or just change the order of file sorting
-exit
-run again TC and the parameters are not changed: window is back in its original position and file sorting is unchanged.
-these parameters are saved only if I explicitly invoke the menu voice save position and settings, then they are saved.

The same thing applies to lister and all the other windows that are used to save they geometry or position.

The position of TC and Lister are NEVER saved automatically, you have to choose this from the menu. This is by design.

yes, ok, but the same problem happens with for example column sorting. If I sort by extension or other voices.. I remember that the sorting was saved when exiting from tc, if I'm not wrong.

Yes, the sorting was saved (and is still saved). Maybe you don't have write rights to the wincmd.ini? Where is it located? See menu Help - About Total Commander.

Well, only if "Save on exit" -> "Panels (brief/full etc.)" is selected in the "Operation" configuration - maybe that setting is accidently changed in Nigurrath's TC ?

it's installed in c:\wincmd so not in a particular problematic folder. Moreover if I explicitly save the settings TC can do it without a problem so it can access the folder and the ini file.

and btw I cannot find the option which petermad mention..

I cannot find the option which petermad mention..
"Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Operation" -> "Save on exit" -> "Panels (brief/full etc.)"

Note: There are 4 options in the "Save on exit" section - "Panels (brief/full etc.)" is the second option.
