-F5 copy:First copy all files, user doesn't need to be asked

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-F5 copy:First copy all files, user doesn't need to be asked

Post by *jjou »

F5 copy: First copy all files where the user doesn't need to be asked and skip all with errors, ask at the end.

How does this suppose to work:
1. copy all correct files then ask at the end for all errors?
or
2. still ask in the middle of copying error file, while continue the non-error file?

What does the "error" including? like duplicated file?

I am testing the 8.50 beta 10:
1. I am trying to copy all the files from folder A to folder B
2. There is a duplicated file existed on folder B
3. I was hoping that TC will prompt the "overwrite, rename, skip, ..", while it continue with other files as the same time in the background.
4. TC prompted and stoped at the first duplicated file without continue.

Great program! Thanks!

No, TC 8.5 first copies all files where there is no error or user question and skips the others. Then at the end it asks about those which it couldn't copy. The only exception is when there is an error within the first few seconds after starting the operation - then it asks immediately.

Yes. you are right.
I tested TC with the first file that is duplicated.
So it stopped right away.

How come TC makes the first few seconds different from the rest of program?

The idea of this function is that you can go away and let TC copy in unattended mode. However, if for example ALL target files already exist, TC would first go through all of them and try to copy them - in vain. Then after several seconds or minutes, it will get to the last file and finally ask the user about overwriting - without having copied anything.

Therefore it's better to ask the user while he is still there if there is already a name collision or other problem at the beginning, than to wait at the end and do nothing. Otherwise the user comes back and nothing has been copied at all.
