can't drop files from windows explorer

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

can't drop files from windows explorer

Post by *skroslak »

hi,

since I upgraded to windows 8.1 64bit and at the same time to TC 8.50b12, I'm unable to drop files from windows explorer (and also other programs, ex. office onenote) to TC. More specifically, when I take a file from windows explorer, drag it and move the cursor over one of TC's panes, the cursor changes to crossed circle (unable to drop).
drag and drop works TC -> TC and TC -> other programs,

Before, when I was using win 8 and TC 8.0, it was okay.
what could be the problem?

Maybe problem is that you start TC elevated while explorer is not elevated? Windows UAC doesn't allow non-elevated processes to interact with elevated ones. But how do you started TC before upgrading to Windows 8.1?

You should start TC in non-elevated mode, it is much safer and drag-n-drop will work.

oh, exactly right! :)
thanks for an explanation, it didn't occur to me before, because in Windows 8 drag and drop was working perfectly well also when TC was elevated (as far as I remember).
So I'll continue using non-elevated TC and that solves my problem.

Probably now it is a problem, because on compatibility tab in properties for TOTALCMD64.EXE I've enabled "run as administrator", maybe before in win8 I did it in a different way...

Nice to hear that problem solved.

I doubt that it worked in 8 because in Vista, 7 and 8.1 it doesn't work. It would be a security hole if non-elevated programs could interact with elevated ones.
