?[TC8.50b11] This PC -> Desktop -> ".." - go

sam5,
Please put something to C:\Users\Public\Desktop (e.g. create a folder named All Users) and something other to C:\Users\You\Desktop (e.g. create a folder named User).
The correct behaviour of virtual desktop folder is to mix contents of both user and public desktop folders so you should see both created folders, just like on your desktop (note that they are physically in different places).
And the correct behaviour of physical folder is to show only its physical contents.
So please try to enter desktop from different places using Explorer and TC and describe which folders do you see (All Users and/or User).

See: http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/DesktopX2_E1.png and http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/DesktopX2_E2.png
This corresponds to what TC shows: http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/DesktopX2.png
Skrivebord = Desktop.
So Microsoft has with Windows 8.1 simply invented a new Desktop folder which is a subfolder to "This PC" (previously called "Computer" and before that "My Computer"). But Windows 8.1 also still has the concatenated Desktop consisting of the users desktop plus the public desktop plus several other folders - hereunder "This PC" !
No, Explorer also shows different content, depending on which "Desktop" you go to.But as I see, it is TC who shows different contents...

No, like I already said (more then once, actually), on my Windows 8.1, TC shows "c:\Users\<User>\Desktop" in the path bar. For every other folder under "This PC" (there are six in total), TC shows "\\<Folder>".HolgerK wrote:Would you be so kind to confirm that TC shows "\\Desktop" in the path bar?
Then we could finally determine that TC shows the right content (users desktop) but the wrong path(virtual desktop).

Holger
I've created the following folders:MVV wrote:sam5,

C:\Users\Public\Desktop\1
C:\Users\<User>\Desktop\2
Both folders "1" and "2" appeared on my Windows desktop.
When opening in Explorer "This PC" -> "Desktop" I see only folder "2".
The navigation bar shows that I am in "This PC -> Desktop" and both "back" and "up" buttons lead back to "This PC".
When opening in TC "This PC" -> "Desktop" I see only folder "2".
The navigation bar shows that I am in "c:\Users\<User>\Desktop", "up" (..) button leads to "c:\Users\<User>" and "back" (alt+left) button leads back to "This PC".

How exactly did you go there? When I go there via menu Commands - Open desktop, and then go to "This PC" - "Desktop", I also see just the items in folder 2. However, I'm still in a virtual folder, TC shows "\\Desktop\*.*" in the path field, not the physical path. Going up one directory leads back to "This PC".When opening in TC "This PC" -> "Desktop" I see only folder "2".

I have option "Show parent dir [..] also in root of drive" enabled, and so when I click on [..] in the root of drive C, I end up in "This PC". But when I come via Commands - Open desktop, and then go to "This PC" - "Desktop", it still behaves exactly as I described before.ghisler(Author) wrote:How exactly did you go there? Then i don't understand why you persist that the [..] (Backspace, "cd ..", cm_gotoParent) navigation is wrong.sam5 wrote:No, like I already said (more then once, actually), on my Windows 8.1, TC shows "c:\Users\<User>\Desktop" in the path bar.
"c:\Users\<User>\" is definitely the parent of the shown path.
Am i the only one here who thinks that showing the virtual path "\\Desktop" in the path field not only is confusing but simply wrong if the file list only shows the files from "C:\Users\<Username>\Desktop"?ghisler(Author) wrote:.. and then go to "This PC" - "Desktop", I also see just the items in folder 2. Two file panels with identical path but different items:

I'm out.

When TC is in a virtual folder, it doesn't know from which folder the files are. Therefore it shows the name of the virtual folder and not of the underlying directory.

Is there really no way to detect which folder below "This PC" is a real directory-path and not a virtual folder?
Hmmh, and why is this different on yours and petermad's W8.1 installation compared to sam5's OS installation?
Could it be that the virtual desktop name is only shown instead of the personal desktop path if a non English OS-UI language is installed?
