The treeinfo.wc file still have .wc extension aka from "Windows Commander", in before Microsoft sue.

It is not a problem, and it keeps compatibility.

If you like, you can set name and even location for such files, e.g.:

(Configuration section of wincmd.ini file)

BTW configuration files have also kept names wincmd.ini and wcx_ftp.ini.

This is indeed done for compatibility reasons, so TC doesn't have to recreate the tree when there is already such a file from a previous version.
