?[8.50B4] Background search goes unresponsive

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

The problem here is that the regex library cannot be interrupted and doesn't call the Windows message loop either, so there may be short hangs while the regex function is busy.
