-Minor inconsistency: Search vs. Find

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

-Minor inconsistency: Search vs. Find

Post by *browny »

wcmd_eng.mnu
MENUITEM "&Search...\tAlt+F7", cm_searchfor
MENUITEM "Search in separate &process...\tAlt+Shift+F7", 545

KEYBOARD.TXT
ALT+SHIFT+F7 Find in separate process

TOTALCMD.CHM
ALT+SHIFT+F7 Find in separate process

Since the caption is Find files, I guess that menu item text also should use 'Find', not 'Search'

PS. I am not sure this is very necessary, but: maybe in window caption (or elsewhere in the dialog) it might be indicated that this is going to be a 'separate process'?

I prefer not to change this now after so many years. It would mean that everyone would have to learn new hotkeys for the menu.

Adieu, Poor Yorick

I'd vote for a change to consistency.
We could use phantom accelerators.

Thanks, but this is not a poll. :)

I cannot recall ever using S as an accelerator; it was always Alt+F7.
However, it is trivial to change the menu items yet to keep accelerators. Like this:

MENUITEM "Find file&s...\tAlt+F7", cm_searchfor

The second item's accelerator would be unaffected.

MENUITEM "Find file&s...\tAlt+F7", cm_searchfor
But it wouldn't be quite precise, because you can also find directories ;-)

True. But it would match the caption of dialog window. I mentioned that in the opening post.

BTW, in most programs Find is CTRL+F. Why not in TC???
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...

siealex,
Because most programs don't use the standard.
