Copy behavior

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Copy behavior

Post by *RichardDoty »

I have noticed strange copy behavior with TC. I am aware that similar issues were also reported in the past within TC forum.

Configuration:

Windows 7 x64
Lenovo T-410 laptop

Those are the symptoms.

When copying files from one external USB HDD to another external HDD (USB 3 connection), every larger file has around 80MBs speed during the copy. However, when copying process reaches 99% files hangs for 10-20 seconds until TC moves to another file to copy.

On the other hand - this is the observation with TerraCopy integrated within the TC: This problem never occurs with TerraCopy. Speed is always constant about 50MBs. File always reaches 100% and immediately moves to the next file.

This problem with TotalCommander copy never occurs with internal HDD when I am copying files from one folder to another - only between external HDDs and flash drives.

I tried to change other Copy options in TC configuration, but the symptoms are all the same.

I am satisfied to use TerraCopy integration for now and it works fine. However, I am interested to hear any suggestions about this problem.

Best wishes.

I can confirm this behavior.

Happens when copying anything on USB drive (USB 2 connection) At start the speed shown is far above the usb 2 connection limits and progress bar moves accordingly, but that is not the real speed.

It will hang at 99% while the file is actually copying at normal speed.

Maybe it is some copy/usb setting in the config, but didn't have time ti play with the options.

Latest 32 TC on x64 win7.

This is a problem with Windows write cache: Sometimes it takes in data until the cache is full, and only fully writes the data when the file is closed. Unfortunately I couldn't find out when this happens, it only happens for some users.

I can also confirm that. I have seen it before on some configurations, and on others didn't.

I have even compared time length of the copy of the file batch in that situation between Total Commander and Terracopy and Terracopy is faster by 20-30 seconds in the batch of about 20 files (few Gbs in size - can't recall of the exact size length of the whole batch).
