Some Unicode characters don't work in passwords

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Some Unicode characters don't work in passwords

Post by *lancelot »

I have a text file with one Unicode character stored in UTF-8 as 0xc2 0xb4. If I copy and paste this character into WinRAR, it is accepted as the password for my archive. If I copy and paste it into TC, it gets rejected.

If my password is the character with the code c2b1 instead, then it works in TC as well as in WinRAR. Which makes me suspect that there is a bug.

This is in TC 8.50 32-bit on Windows XP SP3. The 'Language for non-Unicode progams' is not English, in case that's relevant.

Unfortunately TC does not currently support Unicode passwords, sorry.

And most programs do not support it too, so use only plain ASCII.
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...
