FTP conection show no file list

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

FTP conection show no file list

Post by *marecekloool »

Hi
I am a regular total commander user and since two weeks ago I noticed that I cant use the FTP feature anymore.

Once I succesfully connect to any server all I get is a blank window with no files whatsoever. I google a lot trying to fix this, reinstalled couple of times but nothink helped so fat.

I have no other problems with my machine or other applications. Please advice if you know whats causing this and help me solve this.
Thank you

Did you try passive FTP mode? What kind of firewall and/or Internet Security Suite are you using?

Can you open the FTP connections in Explorer and/or your browser?

marecekloool,
What does the FTP log say?

Roman
Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

By chance: Do you have the option "Net - FTP Show hidden files" enabled ?

On some FTP server types this will not work and the list remains empty.

Check if your TEMP directory is valid and writable. TC writes a remote directory listing there.

marecekloool,
Upper right-hand corner of the TC window. Two lines of text on white background. Double-click them.

Launch cmd.exe and type the following command: cd %temp%

If this command moves you to the folder, it exists - you should check access rights for this folder and also check free disk space on the partition containing this folder. If this command fails, you should recreate the folder.

Yes it seems it has trouble writing into Temp folder. Thats strange..

It states
1:Chyba zapisu C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Temp\
I tried to allow this folder to be writable by rightclicking and unchecking the USE THIS ONLY FOR READ ONLY option but it keeps getting set back to that state, any ideas how to fix this and what on earth could have caused this all of a sudden ?

Thanks[/code]

C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Temp\ seems to be your private TEMP folder (in opposite to C:\Windows\Temp\).

So try to delete C:\Users\PC\AppData\Local\Temp\ and create it again. If you can't do this or this doesn't help, open folder properties and - in Security tab - check if folder is writable for you (note: if you have Windows Home edition, Security tab will be hidden - then boot Windows in safe mode and try again).

So try this:
1) create C:\Temp2 folder (to avoid potential problems with "deny" security settings inheritance, create it just in C:\),
2) change TEMP environment variable to point to this new folder (info here) - it would be helpful to save the old TEMP variable value in some text file,
3) reboot Windows.

I this solves your problem with TC, delete the old Temp folder, create it again, revert TEMP environment variable, reboot Windows and finally delete the Temp2 folder. And check if TC still works properly.
