[Registry] and [Device Manager] displayed in \\Network\*.*

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[Registry] and [Device Manager] displayed in \\Network\*.*

Post by *basil.cinnamon »

Installed 8.51a on an XP Pro box. When navigating to Network Neighborhood, the entries [Registry] and [Device Manager] appear as well as the usual [Entire Network] Add Network place, etc. The [Registry] "folder" actually opens the local hives (amazing!!) but the [Device Manager] freezes TC requiring killing it with Sysinternals Process Explorer. Neither of these new entries appear on another similar machine where the same version of TC is installed.

The [Registry] "folder" has under it "Connect to remote registry", which when clicked pops up a "Connect Network Registry" window with "Computer name: Vitaly Knyazev".

So, who is Vitaly Knyazev and what is he doing on my machine/network?

"Vitaly Knyazev" is the author of the "registry" WFX plugin.

This "Vitaly Knyazev" is just the default string for "LastRemoteHost=" in the "registry_vk.ini"

You must have installed that [Registry] and [Device Manager] plugins somehow before.

For more about that plugins see e.g. >>> http://www.totalcmd.net/

See the wiki for more about plugins itself >>> http://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php/Plugin

Related to the freeze, you may have to update that plugin, or check if the architecture of the "wfx" is the right one for your OS architecture.
