Search finds only dirs - if search text has dots in it

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Search finds only dirs - if search text has dots in it

Post by *Zipix »

I sometimes have a dir (with dots in its name) and a file inside it with the exact same name & an extension.

Example dir and text file for bug testing link :

Dir: "Cma.Music.Festival.2012.720p.HDTV.X264-2hd"
File inside it: "Cma.Music.Festival.2012.720p.HDTV.X264-2hd.nfo"

Bug(?): When I do a search for the file name (Cma.Music.Festival.2012.720p.HDTV.X264-2hd)
--- I get only the dir as the result, & not the file.

(I am new to Total commander so hope I didn't miss anything, thank you)

This is intended behaviour. As soon as a dot is given in the search term, TC looks for an exact match, nothing else. E.g. I don't want to find foo_bar.exe.manifest if I search for foo_bar.exe. This is also mentioned in the help file:
TC help wrote:When the search string contains a dot, Total Commander will look for the exact name match.

Yoy can use asterisks in order to get it working: *Cma.Music.Festival.2012*.

Thanks guys, I see, although I do find it weird,
as I think TC should make an exception for the real extension,
ie the last .EXT and still find the file without any * etc,
as the file name is exactly what the user searched for...
