TC runs more than 1 copy at a time when windows is resumed

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Post by *Li Yongzhen »

Although i tick ' Allow 1 copy of Total Commander at a time' in Configuration, TC often runs more than 1 copy at a time when windows is resumed after sleeping or hibernating.

Not confirmed. Do you have some Windows task defined which start TC when Windows is resumed?

No.
Nevertheless, i encounter the problem in my laptop when i open its cover (that is its screen) after it was hibernated rather than desktop computer.

I don't have this problem on my laptop (Windows 8.1). Do you have TC in autostart/startup folder?

no.
The case only happened in TC is in memory. if i shut my laptop cover and at this time TC is not in memory, then when i resume windows, there is not the problem.

Can you try to set the option "only one copy of TC" in Configuration - Options - Operation?

Hmm, no idea - this should really prevent multiple instances. It sounds like the second one is started under a different user account...

Are you sure that is an actual second process?
How did you check for that?
Best use Task Manager / Process Explorer to verify this.
Or maybe post a screenshot.

Sometimes Windows creates a second entry in the taskbar when the program is in some "unclear" state, like when some heavy processing task
is busy and Win is about to ask for forcefully closing the process.
IIRC this can also happen when Windows is busy doing some cache restore (like when running low of memory, and after suspend to disk).
TC plugins: PCREsearch and RegXtract

hi,

i did not create a new topic, but mine is in the same way.
TC doesn't detect 32bits and 64bits instances in the same time, so you can have both in the same time whereas you want one instance. i discovered it by migrate from 32 to 64bits version.

bye

Mike
i'm an old long user of TC since the windows 3.11 release !, for the history, i came to tc when i migrate from amiga commodore to PC where they are diskmanager and directory opus there.

On slow machines, if you try to run TC twice very quickly (e. g. you click twice and your system is set up for single clicks), it actually runs twice regardless of options. Is it possible to detect and auto-close the second instance?
We are not so S.M.A.R.T. as we imagine...

No it's not. The second copy looks for the TC window, but if you start two at the same time, there is no window yet.
